A few weeks back a woman walked through NYC being secretly videotaped and she recorded all the cat calls and sometimes scary interactions with men. The video was made to highlight a growing problem with ever agressive men confronting women who are simply trying to walk down the street.
Now here is where the debate part comes in. Both women are attractive but something I noticed was the places that the women choose to walk through and the types of men that hassled them. It seemed that the brunette walked through some not so nice places which had a variety of people most of whom were of colour. The blonde without pants walked through areas that seemed to have more tourists and was predominantly filled with white people. What can be said about that?
The brunette was harrassed but the blonde who wasn't wearing pants was hardly noticed?
I think it is most mens nature to look at a pretty girl but it comes down to environment and nurture that has a man approach, cat call or harrass. The proper nurture of a boy should give him a certain respect for women that he retains when he becomes a man. Is it the environment or did these cat calling men never learn respect for women?
What can be done today in our society to stop the leering cat calls. A woman shouldn't walk down the street naked but a woman has a right to walk down the street and not be harrassed.
