Ok, I'm playing devil's advocate and exaggerating, but not my much. Southerners want to have their cake and eat it. No exagg.
BS. Many Southerners didn't even remember or care that the flag was even there.. seriously!

If you think some of the Southern Posters here on CD represent most southerners, you are delusional!

BTW, how do you correlate wanting to secede vs not wanting to take a flag down.. ?

As a Libertarian, I don't think I should have the authority to tell someone else not to leave the USA and I don't think anyone should have the authority to do the same to me whether it be on an individual basis, state, region, whatever.

I think the idea of dismembering a great country, probably the greatest in the world, verges on senseless. Why would anyone in their right mind want to do that?

The motivations for secession are still the same: Economics and Enfranchisement.

For example, the $249+ Billion that Texans fork over to the former federal government to be wasted now stays in Texas.

That makes Texans $249 Billion richer.

GDP
Canada: $1,821,445,000
Australia: $1,564,419,000
State of Texas: $1,458,300,000

Without interference from the former federal government, Texas would easily surpass Canada and Australia in GDP and Standard of Living.

Realistically...

Mircea
Yabbut... If Texas was part of a new confederacy, those dollars would have to be shared among the remaining red states. No more northern money going into the coffers of those places means Texas picks up a greater share of what used to come from NY, CA, Illinois, etc.

If the South wanted to secede, no offense, but I'd help them pack.

Anyway, I suspect the bailout would come from the South, not the North, because it would be the Southern and Midwestern conservative regions that would return to old fashioned capitalism and start growing wealth, whilst the Northeast and West strangle themselves with socialistic policies, Obamacare and so forth.
Old-fashioned Capitalism. That sounds great. No, really. Bring back the days of no child-labor laws, the Robber Barons, Guilded Age excess, crowded tenements, no public education, no health care coverage, no regulations on ANYTHING and no limits on daily/weekly working hours. YEAH!! Go for it.

And the south would become part of Mexico! When you become part of Mexico I have a few, ah, defectors that I want to send back your way, several thousand actually.

No, we can't have states seceding. No real reason to do that since all the states are pretty much unhappy about the politics one way or another. I think we need more unity and agreement than having states jump ship.

Yup. And, kindly list for us all the robber barons from the South, and for that matter the locations of tenements in the South. Take your time; we'll wait.

The southern version was plantation owners and slave shacks. But you already knew that.
