How much time do you spend on City-Data and other discussion forums daily?

Would you be more productive if there were no discussion forums and the Internet was used for purely practical purposes, as opposed to entertainment and socializing?

How would you spend your time?

Mahrie.

Yes. There are hours I sit and basically babysit places like this (with sporadic flurries of activity).
Without the discussion forum, I might be reading a book (not necessarily any more productive, per se).
Or watching Netflix.
Case in point, I should be using this down time right now to be studying, but I am here answering this question. LOL.

I'd be reading a book...don't know how productive that actually is....

Thanks for responding so quickly, Stan.

I posted this thread because I've grown much too fond of this forum and the people here, and I'm not practicing (my instruments) as much as I ought to, and I'm writing less music too, so it's interfering with my creativity. I'm going to have to go on a social diet to maintain my professional standing, I'm afraid. Maybe allow myself an hour a day... or something like that.

I'm not even close to spending the time here that others must to have the post counts they do, and it made me wonder what motivates people to spend... Heaven knows how much time they/we do here, and on other forums specific to our interests and needs.

I spend far too much time on YouTube too, streaming hours of Noam Chomsky's lectures and interviews, as well as listening to my favorite artists and sometimes even watching The Graham Norton Show.

I've let myself become emotionally hijacked, and that won't do!

This realization has made me wonder how others view the time they spend here.

Shabbat Shalom,

Mahrie.

Depends on the book, I'd say. Is it pulp fiction that'll turn your mind to mush , or something educational or edifying?

Blessings,

Mahrie.

My high post count is from exactly these situations.
Stuck in a building for 12 hours in a row, cannot leave for even one minute, there are no breaks, cannot control work flow (like there is nothing else I could even be doing right now to help the work environment), and I don't want to open this behemoth text book.
That and it literally takes 10 seconds to post something if you are a fast reader and a fast typer.

Wow! It takes me ages to post anything of significance, but then I am legally blind, and I used to type much faster than I do now. Oh, well, y'can't have everything! (Still haven't figured out why not!)

Shabbat Shalom,

Mahrie.

No. I'm sure I'd find incredibly boring ways to waste time, such as Facebook

Definitely. I'd do way more reading, and I'd get my housework finished without hourly CD breaks.
