Should America have capsule hotels?
SHOULD!?

Who are we to say what America SHOULD have? Americans will pay for what they want. Pushing Americans into something they have not expressed an interest in is like pushing a bobcat through a car wash.

Not exactly. Who really demanded leaf blowers, fitbits, fruit-flavored beers, little LED lights around the headlights on cars, or cars that beep when you lock / unlock them?

Creating needs is what keeps American business afloat. It also often cheapens, coarsens, and makes our lives more expensive and exasperating. But that's another topic altogether.

I love small spaces, particularly if they are cheap. I could put my books/dvds/cds in storage, and live in a capsule hotel! Yes, they should definitely exist in the US, and there would be many customers.

Yes, I'd like capsule hotels to be available in USA. Whenever I get a hotel /motel room, I simply need to sleep. I don't need all the space & amenities & luxuries unless traveling with a sweetheart and/or children.

Looks a bit tight for a family of 3. But just for a place to sleep when you're traveling solo, it looks like a more private experience than the 8-bed bunkhouse travel hostel I stayed at in D.C. recently for $35/night (versus the $250-$300/night hotels).

The big innovation in the U.S. is not these tiny tube hotels that work well in super-crowded Tokyo. It's AirBnB and similar sharing economy services. I've gotten some great deals using this service and it's become my go-to travel option.

Just curious what's the height limit in these things? I'm 6'4 and if I ever take a trip to Japan I might like to stay a night in one for the novelty.

At six-four, you'd be cramped in a standard Japanese business hotel room. Here's a link.

Here's a capsule:

I lived and worked in Japan off and on from the mid-eighties to a few years ago. I was so glad to be a shorty (5'8")!

As the US population percentage of vampires gradually increases, it makes more and more sense to have that kind of accommodation.

The capsules look too much like cold storage drawers in a morgue.

I say yes in my opinion. I wouldn't mind sleeping in a capsule hotel.
