LOL. As someone who has played Texas Holdem and other forms of poker several times a week for many years, let me just say that your lack of understanding and downright naivete' about this subject is kinda cute.
BTW, Texas Holdem is "traditional" poker and has been played for about 100 years, including the last 50 or so in Las Vegas.
Having lived in Las Vegas for several years, my answer would be an unequivocal yes.
Do you agree that Texas Holdem has less skill and more luck involved then five card draw or seven card stud? You have known gamblers that can make a living at it ? How do they do it? Are they part of a syndicate?
It is widely known that the racehorses are s pumped full of all kinds of drugs including steroids to improve their performance hence their reputation for being high strung . I have even heard a rumor that they are given cocaine. I believe they also mentioned difficult track conditions this time. There is a lot of pressure on the owners to win. And they take it out on the horses. The horse's body can only take so much.
Don't believe everything you read; the horses, just like pro football and baseball players are tested for drugs routinely. If they were high on coke they would not be racing. of course there is pressure put on to win; there is a lot of money involved just like baseball, football or other sports.
Are you aware, horses used to race every week or so: now it is usually not more than once a month or maybe a little sooner. That is to protect them from as many injuries.
As for Vegas etc if a person wants an eyeful on your odds of winning stop by between 2-4 AM when they are emptying the slots.
A cart of buckets that hold nickels, dimes or quarters from the slots......all from the rolls bought from the Cashier or change girl in exchange for your paper money.
A change girl will generally pay of a WIN with again rolls of coins which a person puts back again into the SLOTS.
They have poker too, not the traditional poker like five card draw and seven card stud but something else called Texas holdem a fast game with less skill and more luck . In this kind of poker the odds are stacked against winning, but that does not stop many people from trying to play and losing a lot of money.
Less skill and more luck, the odds are stacked against winning (depending on the rake) Really!?!?! Then I must be the luckiest SOB on the planet!

When was the last time you gambled in Vegas? The vast majority of players never touch a coin, it's all done with cards, slips or bills put in and winnings are taken out on a printed slip of paper that you can insert in another machine or cash out at the Windows. No more cups of coins.

That would be a little difficult considering there haven't been any slot machines on the Las Vegas Strip that still use coins in many years. There may be a couple of places downtown that still have a section or two of old-style, coin-operated "one-arm bandits" simply for the nostalgia effect. All modern slot machines in Las Vegas are TITO (ticket in ticket out).
My father was an addictive gambler. Would win big and then blow it all in a few weeks. He had cars repossessed and died penniless of diabetes complications in a nasty condo that he never kept up. Gambling ruined his life and in turn his family.
It all needs to go away: the lottery, dog tracks, horse racing, etc. Besides the damage to people who go overboard, dog & horse racing is plain cruel. Two horses died yesterday at The Preakness.
So, just because some people can't manage their own lives, the enjoyment for others that can must be stopped.
Allrighty then. Do you think alcohol should go away because some people become alcoholics?
Have you ever known anyone who could actually make a living at gambling or over the long run won more then they lost?
Watch WPT poker or WSOP poker and you will see some familiar faces from time to time.
Gambling where the outcome has some degree of skill, is not the same as playing the lottery.
Some of these professional poker players do quite well over time, and if they are careful to never bet their whole bankroll at any one time can become wealthy.
