I've studied ethno-nationalism for many years. I've joined pretty extreme white nationalist groups and I've joined extreme black nationalist groups. However for some reason white nationalism is always looked at as a right wing ideology, even though they believe in both protectionism for whites and they believe some forms of socialism. Even white nationalist groups called themselves socialist outright, but are STILL considered right wing and conservative. Common views of white nationalism is...
* Views that white people should separate from other groups
* Diversity has polluted the progress of all white people
* White people should put themselves first over all others
* Some believe there should be an all white nation, where all whites in diaspora should unite as one nation
Black nationalism is characterized by the following...

So how is it that white nationalism is right wing and conservative, but black nationalism is left wing and liberal? Yet the two philosophies are basically identical?
Good question. There has always been a fascist tendency within the black community along with a leftist bent and everything one finds in every other community of like people. Blacks are no different than any other ethnic or cultural group when it comes to the various political leanings within a defined group.

Yeah, but I think this leads to a bit of intellectual and philosophical inconsistency when labeling what side of the political spectrum these people fall on. One can say that there is a difference between left wing nationalism and right wing nationalism. Yet these two groups are virtually the same, yet classified differently. Or maybe the labels are contextual, perhaps the majority class nationalism will always be considered left wing, and other groups who has some sort of "counter nationalism" are always considered "left".
I have often wondered this myself. I mean, it was the right wing that emancipated the slaves. It was the left wing (last President was FDR) who vetoed anti lynching legislation. The right wants all people to work, be productive and enjoy the fruits of our labor. But the left who wants to enslave blacks with cradle to grave welfare. And this creates idleness and that creates trouble.
At the end of the day, I think the lure of free money and being able to burn the world down in idleness is too overpowering and forces the black man to the left for their sustenance.
The left enslaved the blacks, refused to free the blacks, and now enslaves them with never ending welfare that they are unable to break the chains of.
They may be labeled left or right of the mainstream. Since mainstream America is in de facto white supremacy, White Nationalism wants to make White Supremacy de jure. Black Nationalism wants a total departure from the mainstream where as White Nationalism wants an extreme form of it.
Could it possibly be as simple as right-wing/conservatives want things to stay as they are, and left-wing/liberals want things to change?
I think most people will agree that in the U.S., the "whites" are still in charge; and so I think that many, if not most, whites would not like this to change and conversely the "non-whites" would like to see this changed.
I also think most people realize that the adage, "strength in numbers" still applies; and I also think that many people have a tendency to think that their race, religion, culture or whatever is best, so perhaps to those people, "diluting" the so-called racial purity would be harmful.

White separatist want to separate entirely. They can separate entirely because they as a group have the means, social construct, and skilled knowledge to do just that. That makes them Right Wing where the individual, in this case the individual group, has limited ties to greater society/world. Any connection to the greater world would be more for business needs than downright survival. An ideology of we'll do it on our own and all on our own...Nationalistic...Right Wing.
Black separatists really just want to separate by color line alone (neighborhood) and maintain everything else with greater society. Because truthfully surviving without that umbilical cord would be extremely difficult. In this light, black separatists are quite aware of the need for greater society to survive and policies that benefit the greater community as a whole would benefit themselves...Communistic...Left Wing.
