Why does the UK copy USA gang and rap culture? (how much, New York)

I see the UK with bloods and crips.... how did that come to be? Do they just watch an American tv show and then someone makes a gang and people follow along? Even down to the clothes they wear, like New York caps and Cincinnati Reds caps... I just don't get it

It is one of the most destructive subcultures there is and it is being shoved down everyone's throats worldwide. You'd almost think it was on purpose, and for a reason.
