I started another debate here that asked if "NFL kneelers + walkouts = racism" and it has received many thoughtful and inciteful comments.

I think if Pence did sit down to listen to the grievances of the Black community that the NFL players are bringing attention to then that would go a long way to bridging the divide.
Of course the Left would complain that it was nothing but a publicity stunt and the extreme Right would call Trump a sell out but there are millions of us that stand in the Middle and we would like to see something done. Sitting down to talk is a start.

I think the NFL commissioner and the owners should require the players to stand for the anthem and this would fall under the guidelines from the rule book as the players are not allowed to do excessive celebrations in the end zone or allowed to alter their uniforms in anyway for example.

Pence could smooth over the hard stance that Trump has taken.
It seems like you're saying Pence is stupid. I know what the complaint is. All you have to do is a quick Google search and it's easy to find out exactly what they're saying. Pence is, unfortunately, the Vice President; if he doesn't know what the complaints of Black people are, in general, and NFL players, specifically, then frankly he ought not be in politics. And I'm not even saying he has to agree them. But you're telling me he can't figure out what the primary issues are. We are in trouble.

The one I enjoyed the other day in one of the threads was "For all intense and purposes".

Which then led me to learning a new word -- eggcorn!

Yikes! Usually, you see "for all INTENSIVE purposes." And yes, "eggcorn" is the catch-all for such, but don't just be looking for an "escape goat" out there.

I would love to know why Pence and Trump are wasting their time babbling endlessly about the NFL and the National Anthem. They are making a mountain out of a molehill, and this molehill doesn't even concern them. The NFL is a private entity and their employment policies are their own, not the government's. And even if it was a big deal, they have much bigger issues they should be addressing, like running the government. Is Trump ever going to get around to that? He'll be at the end of his first year in office soon.

Because campaigning to adoring crowds is fun - actual work, not so much.

Pence should be forced to sit for three weeks and hear a playback of all the stupid things he's uttered.

Pence is not stupid but I do question the intelligence of anyone that is tearing up their tickets, burning their team memorabilia or walking out.
I can't help but think that anyone who does any of that is not understanding what the Black players are protesting or worse they don't care or even worse they want to keep things just as they are.

If Pence would be willing to sit down with representative players be it in a town hall or on 60 minutes I think that would speak volumes and shed light on exactly what the guys are protesting.
There are too many that see their kneeling as a disrespect to the country so a sit down meeting would be a chance to tell the country exactly what they are trying to accomplish.

The greats people of the Civil Rights movement always had a plan that would move their cause forward but the kneeling is confusing many and many don't really know what they are trying to accomplish and if it is even possible.

It would be a very interesting show if Pence and the players sat down to talk.

This is the correct answer.

As for the reason Trump is going after the NFL? It is because the NFL would never let him buy a team going back to the 1980s. As we see everyday, he is a thin skinned baby who never lets go of any perceived slight. He was the main reason the USFL went under in the 1980s when they sued the NFL. The USFL won the law suit and the award was $1 which was tripled under the law to $3 and after all the appeals, the court added .76 for interest for a total award of $3.76. By the time the check was mailed in 1990 the USFL was long gone.

There is no reason for the President and the Vice President to be involved with the NFL. They should be trying to get something done.

Nope. Pense "should" Take a knee and pray for this country. Then start actually resolving the issues . Instead he pouts off under the guise that he disapproves of the players "silent" actions. THey aren't disrespecting the "flag", they are practicing a very real right we have in america.
