Interesting article in the February Nat'l Geographic, The New Big Brother, In Our Surveillance Society, Satellites, Cameras, Drones and Phones Are Tracking Us More Than We Ever Imagined.

Most will say: Hey! If you've got nothing to hide, you've got nothing to fear! And if it's going to keep us safer, let's go for it!

In the heavily surveilled UK there's 9,000 CCTV (closed circuit TV's) cameras around the UK/London which photograph 30-40 million images daily of every single passing license tag, not merely for speeders or known criminals. Yes, the cameras in London helped solve the deadly terrorist bombings which killed 52 people.
But, but but!!! If a terrorist is dead set on creating a terrorist act, does that then explain the surge of cars, trucks, vans ramming into crowds of people? How can the cameras stop something like this?

NYC has a CCTV network of roughly 20,000 cameras in Manhattan alone and Chicago has a network of 32,000 CCTV devices to help combat their murder epidemic.

And then there's cameras for the police, security guards, and what next? Cameras for teachers, postal workers, nurses and prostitutes?

How about you? And what point has it gone too far, or going too far? And will you feel any safer as a result of it?

keep in mind, all these things are ONLY the methods we know about, you can be sure they have secret surveillance methods that none of us is aware of...thats the truly scary part to me!

Whats also interesting, to start talking about this and suggesting Govt engages in this type of behavior, most people will instantly label you as a crazy conspiracy theorist ? LOL I guess people like this are just so brainwashed, they literally cannot seriously entertain the idea their govt is like this...IDK, thats the only thing I can think of to explain it.

I think it is startling that our Gov. under Obama could take sketchy evidence to the FISA court and get the OK not once but twice to spy on candidate Trump and then President Trump.
If they can do that to such a rich and powerful man where does that leave the rest of us?
It leaves us open to just about anything they want to do.

On a smaller scale the added cameras that are in our faces bother me. Multiple cameras at banks are one thing but at my local super market there is a camera and a TV above the entrance so I can wave to myself as I enter. At the local Home Depot there are cameras in the plumbing bits and screw hardware aisles with signs that say "smile you are on camera" and they beep when activated to let you know you are being watched.

It is sad that is the world is coming to this but it is a sign of the times I guess that people cannot be trusted. I still think that most are good but there are a rising number of people that will steal anything if it isn't nailed down.

There's also the issue of parents spying on their kids and schools having cameras everywhere and monitoring their kids' social media.

Like many other conditions of the industrial age, it's limited by the costs of electricity and electronic hardware. Fossil fuels gone, surveillance decreased. People can always spy on their neighbors and use gossip as a weapon.
