Gun obsession is really unique to the American psyche. I imagine there is a solution out there (gun ban or repeal of the 2nd amendment?) but it is decades away. I am encouraged by young people because baby boomers have really screwed things up.

Frankly, I can see it. I could count on one hand the number of times I've had to utilize firearms to protect the house or the family and even that has been decades ago. We simply don't have a lot of violence in our area. And to be honest, I may not have the rapid reflexes I used to have anyway.
Could you elaborate on those number of times you used the gun.
Would you have been better off not owning the gun at all? Would everything still be the same?
I guess my question is it isn't often you need them, but if you need it just once it was worth it.

Look at the statistics of death by guns in various countries of the world.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/how-u-s...her-countries/
These four countries have nearly eliminated gun deaths - here's what the US can learn | The Independent

I hope that one day privately owned guns will be made illegal in the US.

Maybe once all the fighting and boo-hooing has died down because they had to give up their weapons, and years later when a lot of the them have been confiscated, there will be less accidental shootings, killings and murders. People will realize that they feel SAFER without all the guns, which is the reverse of how they feel right now.

Your kids and teenagers aren't safe in schools. They are being killed. Mothers and fathers are having to make funeral arrangements for their kids. Is that okay? It seems to be. How sad is that?

Look around the world. Don't worry about the AR-15s. When you start hearing AK47s, be afraid. Be very afraid.
It seems you can take the guns out of the violence but you can't take the violence out of the people.
That violence takes many forms, including self destruction, robbing people, killing masses in anger, and defending your home and ultimately, defending your nation.

It would surely be suicide for those charged with gathering those arms.

Just look at a city like Chicago where they have fairly restrictive gun law's. From what I've researched there seems to be less gun violence there than the general country.
