The needs of immigrants should matter zero. It's on them to assimilate and pull their own weight.

American Citizens of course. Immigrants are not OWED anything by this government. Access to US citizenship is NOT a birth rite its a privilege. What we have is way too much immigrant entitlement. I'm tired of hearing this is a nation of immigrants as a descendant of those enslaved I beg to differ this country was built by skilled forced labor of my ancestors CENTURIES before Ellis Island ever existed. Mass & Illegal immigration has always hurt American Blacks and has been used to keep us as a permanent underclass

What matters is America behaving like America and not some tinpot authoritarian state.

And what Americans need to grasp is that illegal immigration benefits the right people, which isn't you or me, and that's why it'll continue. The poultry, meat packing and home construction industries employ illegals in huge numbers.

Notice that the ones being rounded up are primarily women with young kids, not able-bodied young men.

What MOST Americans never seem to understand is that illegal immigration is just another facet of corporate welfare. Corporate America LOVES having millions of sub minimum wage illegal workers in the labor force to hold down pay and benefits for Americans.

Better yet, those illegals clog up emergency rooms across the country, and their medical bills are covered at taxpayer expense.

Yep...

Can we first differentiate between LEGAL Immigrants and ILLEGAL Immigrants? The Left likes to lump them all into one group and they are not.

A Legal immigrant will ask you if he can spend the night in your house.

An Illegal immigrant will sneak into your home and crash on your couch.

America is our house and we need to lock our doors. Anyone that is sneaking in is trespassing.

We have immigration laws that need to be adhered to. if not then why do we have laws at all?

When one considers the billions of dollars that goes towards the illegal aliens problem wouldn't that money be better spent helping citizens and legal immigrants?

What really gets me is that not long ago we heard the Clinton's, Obama, Schummer and the like telling us how bad illegal immigration is for America so what has changed?

We need to help the people that are already here, why are we looking to import more people that will need public assistance?

Of course the current residents of this country deserve help more than newcomers. But many right wing people don't even want to help the needy here. The elderly live in ugly cramped housing in many cases and the working poor live in poor conditions too. People on welfare need help getting jobs and keeping their health insurance instead of being worse off for working. The list goes on.

Our government is creating a sad situation by practically inviting all these people to try to just walk into our country without birth certificates, background checks, vaccinations, and guarantees of jobs. LEGAL immigrants are required to do all these things.

So, if the opening question is legit--of course we should help our own people first. But we don't even do that very well.
Exactly so! All it would take is for Congress to pass just one law, just ONE that states "EVerify will be used by all employers prior to hiring, NO EXCEPTIONS.
If said employer ignores or fails to use EVerify said employer will face fines AND a sliding scale of jail time.

Then a change to the H1B visa system to make it more like Canada which requires any company to hire from its citizen labor pool FIRST or prove they cannot find citizens to do the particular jobs.

A policy change that requires immigrants to show they can support themselves PRIOR to coming to the U.S.. Many other first world countries require this.

No more illegals to worry about AND immigration would slow to manageable levels...

Today's news story:

Quote:
SALEM - Parents of young children were among the first released after federal officials arrested 146 undocumented immigrants in a raid Tuesday – the second large raid in Ohio in seven days.

The workers were arrested Tuesday at bacon- and hot dog-supplier Fresh Mark's location in Salem, according to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The raid was part of a yearlong investigation into allegations that Fresh Mark knowingly hired immigrants who were in the country illegally. Many immigrants working there were using fake identification belonging to U.S. citizens, ICE said. In total, ICE arrested 98 men and 48 women, mostly from Guatemala, according to spokesman Khaalid Walls.

Doesn't a significant percent of illegal immigrants start out as legal immigrants who illegally overstay?

It's not a birth rite? Then how exactly did you become a citizen?
