You’re picking and choosing who represents what and expecting people to apologize for some extremist based on your loose definition. Not sure what objective it would achieve either way. You’re just looking for something to get upset about.

They actually have a somewhat conservative bend. So yeah I think the kids will do well and their children will vanish into the melting pot. My first wife was born to Italian American parents. Her mother grew up in Italy though she was born in the US. My wife did not take up English until she was four. But as an adult her Italian was an ability to understand simple conversation. And our children are about as American as you can get and all at least moderately successful.

So the children of the illegal aliens will do fine. They generally have family structure and support to do well.
I actually grew up on the Mexican border. Attempting to affiliate a massive casino city to the entire US Mexican border is a stretch. The school systems on the border are terrible, poverty and crime is high, health care is dreadful, and overall ambition and acheivement is a joke. By your rationale, the border would be a thriving Mecca or innovation and prosperity. Sorry, but I’ve lived the reality and it doesn’t fit the liberal narrative at all.

You know what this leftie doesn't understand? The population of the U.S. is about 328 million. There are approximately 11 million "illegals."

328 - 11 = 317 million authorized residents.

If my math is correct, that means there is one "illegal" for each 29,818,181 authorized residents.

Let's say each "illegal" receives benefits worth $2,000/year (which I dispute, since most receive nothing) and pays no taxes.

My annual cost for benefits going to "illegals" would be $0.07. Seven cents a year. That doesn't seem like much. Is there an error in my math?

I do acknowledge that a disproportionate amount of the cost is borne by hospitals and schools in areas with large immigrant populations, and something needs to be done. (Starting with making medical treatment less expensive and making insurance more affordable and accessible.)

However, I don't understand why this has become the biggest crisis of this era. Is this really the single most important threat facing America?

Historically all immigrants were treated poorly. The Irish weren’t welcomed with open arms. Neither were the Italians, nor the Eastern Europeans and Jews. The “new guy” always gets it rough when they come in huge numbers. Race alone is rarely the reason anybody is apprehensive of immigration. Take 13 million white Americans to illegally settle in an African or European country uninvited and see how well you get accepted.

i want to thank you all for putting up with my rant, i hardly slept last night. really.

i really take all this to heart. i just do. I'm sure i was way too politcal, but it's hard to separate politics from this because it's only one segment of political power who has brought this all to a boil. I don't want to condemn, I just want to fight for more tolerance and less belief in some very flawed policies.

I don't want to see this country building any more tent cities for children used as pawns. And it isn't political to state that our attorney general even stated that WAS the thinking behind wrenching children from their parents, to try to use these children as an example of what will happen.

i realize my statement above veered to the political, but all this cruelty is just getting to me.... i am so constantly upset but i feel i am watching America flow down a sewer of ignorance, anger, hatred and to have someone keep telling other Americans that illegal aliens and by association, all immigrants are rapists, drug dealers is so harmful to how we perceive other human beings. Just last night i saw on the news some old white lady (and i'm an old white lady by the way) confront a latina woman and her son with truly racists epithets she heard spewed out of ................... well. whoever. i just see us becoming an aberration, a defective society in this, the 21st century. Have we learned nothing from our last 241 years of intolerance, hatred and cruelty?

I am of immigrants, as are most of us. My ancestors faced disgusting bigotry, racism and hatred and they were white! but in today's world of global awareness and global consciousness, we cannot take twenty steps backwards and I truly do feel for all these Americans who just can't understand how they got left behind and why they did. But that is no reason to attack every person different from "THEM"....we are becoming isolated by virtue of who are or how "they" think when we have to try to embrace the unique diversity of us all.

I cannot stand by and just accept what is happening. I must speak out and all this new talk of making sure we completely only accept into our country those who will have the right credentials? Something in that just reeks of "the RIGHT, THE ACCEPTABLE, THE ELITE FEW". We are a nation of differences and I see all this as just one small part of an attempt to make sure we all think only a certain way, only accept certain people and only will tolerate those who get in lock step behind the RIGHT BELIEFS.

I'm scared. I just am. Because this is edging towards facism, this is not that far from totalitarianism..... and i too may find myself on the other side of the aisle who just does not MEASURE UP to what some people feel is a TRUE AMERICAN. i AM NOT GOING TO BELIEVE in your concept of "god" and i can see this all segueing right into that vein of thought.

Of course I do not believe in illegal immigration, but when a person comes to our borders out of fear of death, gangs, drug dealers threatening them or their children, then i will fight to my last breath the right of these people to get a hearing before a court of law where they get to state their case and their reason for seeking asylum. I do believe we should still be that one place that truly will take in the tired and poor, the huddled masses yearning to breathe free.... I do believe we live behind a golden door and I for one hate hate hate that i live in a state that has outright banned Syrian refugees from finding asylum here. I live in a state where the Supreme Court had to rule against this state for blatant gerrymandering of voting districts to keep black people from wielding any power with their votes!!!! I live in a state where people here just gun down asians (happened on the UNC campus) blew three young, talented, hardworking muslim students to death over a parking space!!!!! I live in a state where bomb threats and worse were hurled at Duke University for just the mere thought of allowing muslim students be allowed a call to prayer one day a week. I live in this hotbed of intolerance, fear of the "other", I live in a state that for the last 80 years has had the largest and most active contingent of the Klu Klux Klan and they aren't underground anymore or hiding behind sheets anymore people. They are proudly marching in the streets, going to rallies all over this country to proclaim their beliefs, and I see this spreading now, spreading fast and it's the at the border where they who want only certain kinds of people living here are making their stand. I live in this state so filled with hatred....and I see it becoming more and more and more prevalent everywhere!!!!!!

I want America to stand for tolerance and true justice towards all, not just justice for the right kinds of people. I want us to stop thinking it's us against them. I just want us to try harder people. try harder to have just a bit more compassion and not to believe anyone who tells us one thing, that all of this can be accomplished with "LOVE" and then turns around and just does it with a cruelty heretofore unknown by my own immigrant forebears. This is not about people coming here and expecting free food..... i have never met an immigrant family ever, not EVER, who has not worked harder than hard to achieve a better life for themselves and their children. Not only the parents work two or three jobs, but very often their children work too. We are right to be proud to be the kind of country where hard work produces opportunities for a better life....but many many many born here are far more unwilling to work, let's not forget that. the sense of entitlement still exists and runs rampant against minorities who do work hard and have usurped those "entitled" few who stir up hatred and fear against those they deem inferior.

Let's stop blaming only the "others" who come from someplace else and be honest about the already here who bilk the system for all it's worth.

Doing landscaping and construction in large metro areas that’s dominated by legal Americans is a poor metric to base your assumptions off of. San Fransisco and New York aren’t thriving because illegals flock there to clean houses. Look at communities that are almost excluviley dominated by illegals. Rural Iowa and Minnesota is in much better shape than rural Texas and New Mexico border towns. In fact look at Mexico itself for that matter. The best and brightest in Mexico are not flocking to America.

Sorry but I said no such thing. And some of the border cities are just fine. Others are zoos suggesting it is factors other than border location that determines the parameters of a city.

San Diego is an obvious border city and takes second place to none. If I had made the right economic choice I would have ended up in Poway rather than Las Vegas. Would likely have made me most of a million dollars.

I am not unhappy with my choice 22 years down the pike. But it was clearly not the best economic decision.

I have always found the contradiction between Phoenix and Las Vegas fascinating. Las Vegas actually has a higher percentage of illegals than Phoenix. But nobody cares. It is a big deal issue in Phoenix and totally ignored in Las Vegas.

Calm down. Nobody hates anybody. You’re gonna have to put down the 24 hour news and actually talk to people and actually maybe do some actual traveling. The “right” contributes more to charity than the left. Those mission trips to Mexico building schools and housing are typically run by rural white churches throughout the same counties that voted for Trump. Remember, Americans that break the law don’t get treated well either.
Tolerance of illegal activity breeds more illegal activity.

well, Mr. Ziggy, i just do not equate the desperation of entering this country illegally going hand in hand with escalating illegal activity. Are such blanket generalizations ever more than just blanket generalizations..... I could say most domestic violence occurs when someone is under the influence of alcohol...... does that make all beer drinkers abusive wife beaters? Just doesn't make sense does it? So, That's just not a believable leap. I believe that most just need to provide for their families, perhaps because i live in a highly agricultural state where not one white person can work in a field for 12 hours a day, nor has to endure the conditions these people live in, their shacks provided by the farmer go straight back to slave days, were slave quarters....... i also find your comment a bit unbelievable with not one credible source that it's the "right" who give the most..... (actually i can cite a credible source, if you would like me to, it states that there is absolutely no correlation between conservatism or liberalism as a majority who gives the most!!!! And i'm inclined to believe two MIT researchers who did this study. sorry) nor do i watch any 24 hour news shows, why make fun of anyone if they do, but i don't, why get personal about it? why? how does this serve the discussion, you making fun of me?

Someplace a few posts back you make the claim that the Klu Klux Klan is an off shoot of the Democratic Party....let's be real about that claim too..... it might have been the case in the 1800's, but now, since 1940, here in North Carolina which has the largest contingent of the Klu Klux Klan (not Alabama, Georgia or Mississippi, but North Carolina has the most active and growing contingent of the Klan and this is definitely a RED state, a highly conservative state, so please, enough of the comments that are not supported by fact.

Look i live amongst a lot of immigrants, legal or not and i see how hard they work, this is my own personal observation, i do not condone illegal immigration, can't you just believe that one statement from me? But i just feel that living in a red state as i do and hearing all the hatred out there, watching it manifest daily, all the time, in stores, at restaurants, at rallies, at the State Fair or a music festival, when i am in a crowd of a few thousand people, i know what I see and what i hear and it carries more weight than your claim that any good being carried out in Mexico is done at the hands of "his" supporters. Why do you make so many generalizations with not one bit of proof? Just so vague! I see what i see, I am living amongst millions of his supporters and I see how Latino-Americans are treated and they are legal!!!!!! I saw more on one occasion garbage be dumped upon the only female hispanic woman who works at the transfer station, with a man screaming "garbage for garbage!" and another guy telling her to get her *ss back to Mexico....and she's from Puerto Rico and has been an American citizen for almost 20 years!!!!! or the time a woman wanted proof she wasn't illegal and she was making it her mission to get her fired for telling her where to park. (there is a designated area if you decide to park your car).... i have seen the totally wonderful black men who work there get called every denigrating word in the book...... i see and hear how these people act and what i do believe of the majority of these people who voted for him in this state, i hear them state "we know how how to handle them down here, we have ways to keep them in their place" !!!!..... also, after weeks of telling people to he'd love to punch them in the head, it was in NC where the VERY FIRST violence of that campaign happened, in Fayetteville....and the young black man was suckerpunched by an elderly white man and it was the young black man who was dragged away, violently thrown to the ground, handcuffed and arrested!!!!!!!!! please. spare me. I know what i have seen, heard and daily have to fight against here and will continue to fight against. The majority of white people here truly do hate. You can look up all the instances of hate i have cited that happened in this state and what is wrong is always going to be wrong. cruelty and intolerance and hatred is wrong and there is way too much here in this state.
