Islamic radicals TMK have mostly been taught that Western Civilization rose & caused Islam to fall (in the World). It doesn't help that in the more desperate economies in the Islamic world don't have public education as we do in the West - they have madrassas - religious schools, typically only for boys. The madrassas - especially the ones underwritten by Saudi Arabia Wahhabis - a very theologically (& socially?) conservative form of Islam, in partnership with the Saudi royalty - are fanatical about returning Islam to a pure early form, & against the West in general - for our lack of religious sentiment, we drink alcohol, our women flout their sexuality, etc.

The Wahhabis train a lot of SA young men, send them out into the World - to operate mosques that the Wahhabis also fund, with Qurans & other religious material published by Wahhabis, teaching Wahhabi doctrine.

The other strain of Islamic radicals are middle-class students with degrees from Western universities - often in sciences, engineering.
