Mariachi bands & guayabera shirts are extremely popular elements of summer weddings in Texas, in caucasian families as well as latinos.

In today's political climate, is this considered a form of CA?

(((For those that don't know, the guayabera, aka Camisa de Yucatán (Yucatan Shirt) is a men's summer shirt, worn outside the trousers, distinguished by two vertical rows of closely sewn pleats running the length of the front and back of the shirt. Traditionally made of linen, silk, or cotton, and appropriate for hot or humid weather, the guayabera is often worn in formal contexts such as summer weddings.)))

IDK; if you like Mariachi music, you like Mariachi music. And guayaberas are very practical for hot weather. I had s supervisor who would wear his at work, on the warmest days of the summer. (In Seattle.) I think they're a great invention for men's office attire and semi-formal wear.

If we can rip off the entire Cinco de Mayo holiday, we can hire a mariachi band. Not sure what the controversy would be.

People came down pretty hard on the young lady who decided to wear a traditional Chinese dress to her prom, so I was just wondering. . .

Speaking English when you're not English? - cultural appropriation (with old history but still). Using the world wide web and http without being Anglo-American-Swiss? Cultural appropriation. Using AC but you are not American? Cultural appropriation.

Every single thing in human cultures is derivative or connected to in some way from something previous or parallel, and no-one owns any single culture, its complete crap.

"Cultural denigration?" Not acceptable. "Cultural appropriation?" Just self-righteous victimhood-melodrama pseudointellectual claptrap of the empty-headed. Sure you can pay attention to such clowns - or you can have some backbone and ignore their inanity.

Wear what you want. Don't let a few hand wringers interfere. Far too many people out there just look for something to be offended over.

Your examples reflect a lack of understanding of the concept of cultural appropriation. I'm not criticizing you, just stating a fact.

Cultural appropriation refers to the act of a member of a dominant culture adopting elements of a minority culture.

It is distinguished from equal cultural exchange due to the presence of a colonial element and imbalance of power.

For example, a non-Native person wearing a Native American war bonnet as a "fashion accessory" is commonly cited as an example of cultural appropriation.

No, but you're welcome to chime in, of course.
