Every state now has "Real ID" or a drivers license that doubles as verified ID. Its not a big stretch to see that as simple ID, no driving privileges and or voting privileges since not everyone has voting privileges.
In this day and age where your smart phone doubles as secure translations of all types including credit cards, banking and so on it seems to me it should be simple enough that the majority of people could be IDed as eligible to vote or not and via a secure app on your phone ... vote in any general election while the polls are open.
Those handicapped or unable to get to the poll for what ever reason could have teams of certified voting officials circulating to their homes to verify and collect their vote.
The most difficult piece of the whole deal is verification of voting eligibility. Once that is done, voting should be easy and transparent.
You are automatically registered when you get a state ID or Driver's License the first time and stays in effect idefinitely until that person changes address, dies, or is convicted or something & loses eligibility.
Mail-In ballot is sent to your address. You mail it in or drop it off. Biometric verification done by app or online if you mail it in or through a device when you drop it off. Drop off sites with verification scanners easily available for every jurisdiction. Drive thru sites, 24 hour sites, etc... These should be no more difficult & expensive than Square devices and a lockbox.
Official vote collectors with scanners to reach less mobile or otherwise challenged voters employed by state.
If there is a discrepancy & someone says they haven't voted but there had been a ballot cast according to their verification, a provisional ballot is issued to that voter until the discrepancy is resolved.
