One of Obamas proposals is to have all patient records on a central, internet based, database - so that any doctor or hospital can access YOUR medical information.

Is anyone here in the "slightest" bit .... "uncomfortable" with this?

No.. I'm not uncomfortable with doctors being able to access my medical information. Doctors SHOULD have access to medical information. i would feel much better knowing that should I be in capacitated to answer medical questions that I would know that a DOCTOR would be able to get the information they need to treat me quickly , efficiently etc.

I would have a problem with others BESIDES the doctors having access to my medical records, such as potential employers etc.

Any doctor who would need or want my information is going to eventually get it anyway from my physician or should I be concious myself or my family (if they know) in order to treat me.

How about if your potential employer, insurance company (including your automobile insurance) or A HACKER could also potentially have access to your information - would that be of concern to you?

This issue isnt about doctors having access, it is to give the government, corporations and insurance companies more access and make it easier for them to snoop around in your private business. In a world were privacy is slowly being taken away, step by step, the last thing we need to do is encourage it further.

Frog-pot-water-slow boil.

Why should the government care nor have access. Just because doctors do does not mean other corporations do or don't or would or could for that matter.

Nope.. it should be accessed ONLY by doctors.. and safety nets need to be in place so that only doctors can access it.

If we applied the same technologies used to protect our national secrets on a digital grid to that of our medical records I'd be fairly comfortable.

TM - are you aware that, the United States Department of Defense, having some of the strongest safe guards there are, have been HACKED - numerous times - and the hackers got very sensitive information. Are you aware of this?

TM - are you aware, that most of our National financial institutions (Banks), who have some of the most sophisticated anti hacking software around, have been HACKED - and consumer information STOLEN that was then used in IDENTITY THEFT. Are you aware of this?

No TM - you DON'T WANT a central, Internet based, data center with your personal information on it -

First.. yes. I am aware.. medical information is NOT as sensitive as national secrets..that's my point. I really could care less if some whacko hacker cares to look at what my medical records are.. truly.

And.. don't tell me what I want or don't want. .. I'll make that decision for myself, thank you.

As always, great points Greatday. Our information is not safe and there is no way this program could save us money. Makes me wonder why anyone would want it...hmmmmm.....

To be fair - I fully understand the benefits of my medical information being made available to a physician I'm seeking treatment from. I travel A LOT and have had to see a Doctor a time or two while away from home (the craziest one was in Hong Kong!)

But, I cannot justify jeopardizing my privacy or that of my family, by agreeing to my information being placed on an Internet based system such as Obama wants to do.
