been a while since i posted on this thread; got tired of talking to myself in the mirror. there is no point in trying to respectfully hold a discussion with someone that has his fingers in his ears, so i will address the rest of you.

since there seems to be some confusion as to what makes one a liar and what doesn't:

Liar

Quote:

LiarNoun

1. A person who has lied or who lies repeatedly.
Source: WordNet 1.7.1 Copyright 2001 by Princeton University. All rights reserved.

Date "liar" was first used in popular English literature: sometime before 1200. (references)
Etymology: Liar \Li"ar\ (l[imac]"[~e]r), noun. [from Old English expression liere. See Lie to falsify.]. (references)
therefore, when another poster used any of the following arguments, he made himself a liar:

1--all americans own guns
2--all american gun owners are trigger-happy lunatics that secretly want to kill people
3--all american gun owners are criminals that simply might not have been caught yet
4--anyone in america can get guns
5--newspapers report objective, unbiased truth

this is just off the top of my head. if anyone has the time and the dementia, feel free to go through these near-60 pages of posts to catalogue all of his flippant lies.

now honestly, it is possible for someone to spout untruths such as these without actually knowing that they were wrong. in such case, the person would be ignorant, not a liar. that might be the case for #5, but there really is no excuse for the rest. they are a result of an agenda (about as truthfully objective as that of the newspapers and nightly political talk shows), an emotionally based, reality-scarce argument, and a desire to cause contention and hurl insults. in fact, the rest of these claims have been made up on the spot simply to support (and i use the term liberally) whatever current insults and america-sucks-holland-rules theories are present in the perpetrator's post–they don't even have a basis *anywhere*. At the very least, he could have found some paranoid scizo's website about aliens, government conspiracies, and elvis in order to back his claims.

now, as for what brought me back: it was just amusing–no, scratch that–annoyingly ironic that the very guy who has refused to respond to any points that don't fit his agenda (he doesn't even respond when we call him on it; he just ignores that too and assumes that we–along with reality and history–will forget that they were ever there, has lied over and over, and has laughed in the face of any logical or reasonable question of his stories, is now the one accusing others of foul play.

yes, i am a sucker for irony–only this kind so far hasn't quite reached the level of literary quality that i usually look for.

but whatever, i'm an ignorant, gun-toting, shadow-fearing, penis-envying redneck, right?

have fun, all. aaron out.

Uneducated people have came to the conclusion that guns kill people.
They don't understand that inefective laws, complacentcy of people in america, and unenforement of boundry's on our children as we raised them, and leave them with out values and standards.
Have lead to the current phobia against guns.
A gun can lay somewhere for 100 years fully loaded and NEVER go off to kill someone. Now put one in the hands of a idiot, or lazy criminal. And people might get hurt.

Good point. The same goes for a katana ,a balisong, or even a dull pencil.

Luckily the Dutch media isn't controlled by huge American corporations.
It seems that the Dutch media is not as biased as the American CNN, Fox or other American media.

LoL, how can I argue with this when you said it yourself?
I assume you know yourself better than I do.

I guess Americans define united differently as the rest of the world?
I also assume that the rest of the world can only be against America whenever they simply disgaree with them?

why not choose a firearms organization like the JFPO or GOA?
For the same reason I don't ask children if they're lying when I already have proof that they are.
Firearms organisations, just like your American media, are not an independent source when it comes to firearms.
Just like those research organisations weren't who did research for the tobacco industry and only gave positive reports because they were paid to do so.

Isn't the same argument valid for nuclear weapons?

Nope, instead its controlled by your Gov't. Theyre not biased tho right?
That must be why you were indoctrinated to believe you cant control yourself.

No its not. The UN is based on the idea that murderous dictators should have as much say in global matters as the rest.

The rest of the world can do as it chooses. Last I saw there was pressure from the UN to get greater gun control in the US. Cant say I remember the US ever telling another country they should relax their gun laws.

You dont know what GOA or JFPO are do you? Unlike the tobacco industry nobody has managed to come up with a conclusive study proving that gun freedoms lead to more crime or violence. They have tried but the corrolation simply dont exist.

I'd note also that I dont smoke but know several people who have died from it. I do however own guns & I dont know anybody who has died from them.

How about you Tricky, are you saying you know more people that have been killed by guns than cigeretts?

Thats kind of irrelevant aint it?
Although I'd agree the same holds true.
If only bad countries had nukes we would be in a world of hurt. But since the good countries have them too & are better learned in their use nobody has seen fit to use one for 60+ years.

Maybe if every good person tok their saftey as seriously crime really would go down.

I think argument is either valid or not. So you agree that we shouldn't prevent people from having nuclear weapons in their homes?

LoL, you know even less of the Dutch media than I do about the American.
Just because your American media is controlled by a large corporation does it mean that every media is controlled by a large business and / or government organisation.
Not long ago one of our Dutch network even aired the porn movie Deep Throat against the government's wishes.
They just could not prevent it legally.
