However, have you noticed that in the last 8 years (I speak as an independent with no political party affiliation) the democrats have become increasingly hateful and partisan in a spiteful way?
Republicans have been hateful and partisan in a spiteful way since at least Nixon and Agnew, and they didn't become any less so by joining forces with a bunch of hateful religious extremists...
Revolutions are a lot more fun on Nintendo. You can pause any time, go order Chinese ... Naw, Prophet, you see? Revolutions aren't for people who are merely pissed -- they are for people who are pissed AND have nothing to lose.
You all may be right. Maybe we have become too fat & lazy to care. Maybe what many see as dangerous changes to the very roots of democracy as we know it simply doesn't illicit a response. I can accept that.
On the other hand, when our freedoms are rights are being eroded, it's tough to take that nobody cares.

I agree in part.
However, clearly the pendulum has fully swung. I'm 52 and have never in my life seen such pure hatred as I do today from liberals. Intolerance and hate have become the new liberal mantra.
If the democrats take the presidency along with a majority large enough in the house and senate to be filibuster proof, my only hope is that those that vote on popularity and hollywood pizazz will awaken to find that America is truly a center-right country.
If the younger generation reverses past trends and actually does come out en masse resulting in a democratic landslide, they will see in due time that a far left agenda is not the heart and soul of America. I believe each succeeding generation has to live with liberalism in action before they see that it is not the utopia those that are entrenched with it proclaim it to be. Only those in politcal power in political office truly prosper under far left governing. The rest of us become enslaved to them.
It has been decades since we have seen a truly left wing government, and it seems we have to live by experience rather than learn from history. The Carter years are as close as we have seen of this style of government in my life time and its legacy speaks for itself. Clinton actually ended up Center-Right as a Republican congress didn't allow him to stray too far to the left. I actually believe he wasn't as left as what the current Democratic party has placed before us. The failure of the last eight years is that the conservative values that were hoped for actually did not come to fruition and at least fiscally, it has governed left of center. Laying aside war in the middle east, government grew instead of diminishing.
The current economic situation on Wall Street is nothing more than a natural ebb and flow. A free market will correct itself. It is painful during the correcting phase, but it will ebb back IF government doesn't interfere with higher taxes, more unnecessary regulation and a belief that more and more layers of bureacracy can change things for the better. History has proven that it won't.
I believe it was Churchill that said that in his twenties a man's heart causes him to be a liberal, in his forties a man's mind causes him to be conservative. I myself watched excitedly as a teen when Carter came to office. From my homestate, a Baptist like me and my family, I knew in my gut that he was the best for our country. As a college student I was crushed when he lost to Reagan. However as a graduate, I found that Reagan articulated what I really saw as my core values and as I graduated, began to earn a living and PAY TAXES, I was won over.
I can't blame the current youth and twenty and thirty somethings for believing the current CHANGE and HOPE rhetoric. It inspires the emotions, it fans the flames that we, the people are the government. My hope and prayer is this: If this left wing 180 degree turn to liberalism and socialism does ascend to power next Tuesday, that in two years it will be shown to be the shackle on personal freedom that it is and instead of a government in subserviance to the people, it will be seen that it is a government that enslaves the people. This is not the ideal this country was founded on and in two years, my hope and prayer is that many other young men's brains will awaken, overrule thier hearts and we will see a monumental shift back to the center and even center right.
This happened in 1994. Let's hope we don't have to go through that again, but a new generation obviously has to learn the hard way that America truly has been and always will be a center right country.
