I'm an Independent and I think they will go back to conservatism. I think Newt is gearing up for that run, as well as Jindal...and Palin and who knows who else at this point.

I thought you were channeling Nancy Reagan's version of her husband.

By 2012, hopefully people will understand that neither "party" works.

I'm not really sure it will be conservative, but more of a Constitutionalist. It may also not be in four years . . . it depends on how far the incoming administration crosses the line as far as social entitlements, infrigements on our Constitutional rights, etc.

Newt is a great Constitutionalist . . . great ideas, great debator, and he REALLY knows his history (which is why he's a history professor)!!

I'm really not set on one candidate, as I'm not aligned with a particular party. However, I have very carefully watched past administrations, and I sure will be keeping an eye on the next one.

Time will tell . . .

I hope the next 4 years are not like Carter's, but if Obama ends up being as bad as I think he will then I would rather take Carter's administration to be honest with you. I'm neither Dem. or Rep., but as one who leans towards the conservative side I certainly hope the Republican party nominates a candidate who is truly conservative like Ronald Reagan was.

It should not take till 2012, I think the 2010 election will show that people are center-right given that there wont be a new prez to vote on. the I hate bush thing is OVER. and the progressive thinking socialists wont need 4 years to p off the majority of the country.

We've just been through the dirtiest presidential campaign in history. We can pout and cry and whine and point fingers to keep the country divided so we might win again, or we can stop the devisive, racist ugly talk, stop labeling people we don't agree with, muzzle the hate fillled preachers, turn off the biggoted TV and Radio entertainer airheads (becaise they are dangerpis and we aren't sheep) and try to re-make the party into the conservative image from whence Lincoln came: the Whig Party. A house divided against itself cannot stand and neither can a very large country. A divided hateful party that only knows how to attack and destroy will lose seats the next time too. But a thoughtful party with toned down rhetoric and very good ideas will make inrads into regaining the people's house and possible wind back the coveted gold ring. .

Now is a turning point for the Republicans. We can continue down the road of self destruction or stop, regroup, rethink and practice the art of social intercourse while we redefine who we are and what the goals for the country are for the next century and beyond.

McCain shot himself in the food twice. First and foremost he lost because he listened to lobbyists who told him to attack. That was not the same man who talked to his followers in Phoenix the night of the election. If that man had been running, the race would have been much tighter all across America. Secondly he likes young women on his arm. He selected a young version of that snippy Geralidne Ferraro to be his running mate. Conservatives did not like how John talked or acted, and they did not like Palin's act much either. That why we lost.

Never forget that although Regan was an actor, and handsome, he also graduated from college with a double major of which one was economics. We have to stop anointing politicians because their daddy has lots of money, or they look good on camera, or we owe favors to lobbyists in DC.
More than anything we need to leave religion out of the candidate process. It's personal like sex and it has no more place in the white house than a racist.

We need to find someone who is slow to anger and quick to laugh, has a degree in business or economics, is charasmatic, is less of a DC insider, who doesn't belong to any fringe religion that tells congregants how to vote or to fight the president, believes in a transparent government,, and loves his country. We also need to kill the "moral authority" rhetoric. After Stevens and some of the other goofs that got caught with their pants down, we aren't looking very moral to ourselves much less the rest of the world. We certainly do not need another candidate who spent his college years curled up with a bottle of whiskey and god only knows what drugs. We really need to quit looking at the dregs of society for a candidate even if they were born with money. Money is not the root of evil, it is the love of money that is the problem.

We lost. We ran a negative ccampaign and it backfired. It's time to forget Watergate, start over and get it right the next time. If we don't we will lose again and again and again until we do.

And this my friends, right or worng, is my take on what went wrong, why and how to begin to put Humpty Dumpty back together again.

Think PEACE. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. You can't do it with devisive rhetoric.

Default a liberal replies

thnx for the invite
Mc was ok...until he pandered to the religious right. from that point on, he was no longer a maverick, just another R seeking the "blessing" of those at the edge.
And Ms P had certain positives. Unfortunately, her negatives outweighed the pluses.
the net was that the R's went after voters who were not interested in thinking what was best for the country, but in what was best for the ideology of the far right.
Now, do you use social security or will you to retire? then thank the liberals
are you a female, and vote? thank the liberals
have you ever been unemployed and used unemployment ins to get by? yes, thank the liberals
been injured on the job and received worker's compensation? again, liberals
did/does your company provide you w/ health ins? liberals
go to public schools, send your kids to them? liberals

Conservatives haven't done anything to help working Americans. C's are mainly concerned w/ "social issues" such as abortion, gay marriage, prayer in schools, taxes. None of these issues does anything to make one's life better.
Oh, taxes! Do lower capital gains taxes help most working Americans? No. If the top tax bracket is reduced, does that help working Americans? Of course not.

Gay marriage only affects gay people. So, unless you enjoy denying something to someone else, then gay marriage should not be a concern.

No one "likes" abortion. The point is to allow women the right to decide what is best for them.

I could go on, and will. Liberal does not equal socialist does not equal communist. Does conservative equal fascist? I don't think so.

Now on to Ronnie R. The deficit exploded when he was in office. Conservative? The gov't became much more intrusive into our personal lives. Conservative? What happened to health care under Ronnie? It changed...by becoming more and more expensive. Remember, more competition does not necessarily mean lower prices. It just means more competition.

And, what is wrong w/ everyone in our country having health ins of a high quality where everything is covered, nothing excluded?

Conserve the best of the past, progress towards changes that will make all our lives better.
