That means no need for the paper, and no market for the recyclers here. So what next?

When I found out it went to China I quit recycling it.

You don't have to get up on a ladder at all - they now have extension polls for light bulb changing. I have some bulbs at around 18 feet -

Hmmm, let me see. I've seen when I took the time to seperate my garbage into recycleables and then to watch the garbage dump put everyting into the same pile and cover it with dirt. Or I take the time to put my recycleables into different containers at the recycle place. After I drive down and take my time out to do it. AND THEY SELL THE STUFF!!!!
Oh, it's hard for me to fall into that hype.
If I'm supposed to recycle, why dosn't the city, state, and government recycle. If I am supposed to do with out these planet devastating things like oil, nice home, killing animals, etc. Why dosn't these asses er sorry. ACTORS AND ACTRESSES AND MUSICIANS ALONG WITH AL GORE. Do with out also?
When they do I will,maybe.

Wow guys - some awesome posts here.
(Except for the ones getting rude with name calling, etc. - no need for that and takes away from the poster's words. Then again, maybe some people have no real interest in the subject at hand - just want something to argue about).
I was a little surprised no one mentioned Al Gore. Looks like he is living carbon neutral because he purchases carbon credits. He purchases his credits from Generation Investment Management.
Oh wait, he was co-founder and is Chairman in Generation Investment Management. Sweet. Looks like he may make some big bucks with this company.
Several articles on this subject including Riehl World View: Al Gore's Inconvenient Loot

FOXNews.com - Al Gore's Inconvenient Electric Bill - Opinion (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,257958,00.html - broken link)

Al Gore Purchases Carbon Credits From A Company He Himself Owns - Digital Journal: Your News Network
Gore's 'carbon offsets' paid to firm he owns
Interesting article from 2007 about the Tennessee Center for Policy Research doing research on Al Gore's energy consumption. Al Gore's Carbon Footprint Is Big. - BusinessWeek
However, to be fair, just about all these articles are from 2007. ??????

It seems that environmental issues were more prominent then, since the economy and election has come center stage in 2008. Some issues I've had hard times finding since 2005, except of brief blurbs that it's still going on...I bet there will be more coming up.
If you look on slashdot they have a good amount about environmental technology, much more then even wired (thought they love ragging on the RIAA)...I love reading that site.

Recycling where I live is non existent. I pay a private company to come out twice a month and empty the dumpster. There are no recycling centers anywhere close either.
Doing a compost is not viable in that it draws in some animals that are not really welcomed -
So, we just send the trash to the dump - including those pesky CFL lightbulbs

My thing is instead of news casters, so called environmental experts, and weather men talking about global warming why isnt anyone doing anything about it? IF anything can be done about it. One of my many pet peeves about the media they harp about doom and gloom more than anything else. I dont really think any thing can be done about because I think its too late.

Well, I hesitate to post here after some extended sparring on a thread with a similar topic, but I will anyway. I don’t think what I have say here is offensive--it's certainly not meant to be.
I’ve never been a militant environmentalist, but I’ve always been into simple living, frugality, and conservation. I’ve been into using what I need and no more. I hate excess. I don’t need to drive the tanks I see on the road these days. I don’t need to live in a house the size of a barn. I find that sort of thing wasteful and luckily I’ve never given a damn about keeping up with the Jones’s in anything. So, for the most part, I have always lived ‘green’ and frugally.
I drive a small 35 mpg car (if it weren’t so far to work, I wouldn’t drive at all--and I’m working on doing just that), the temperature in my very small dwelling is 63 F right now (that’s about where it usually is during the winter), I try to minimize my power consumption, I try not to contribute any more garbage than I have to onto the national ‘garbage pile,’ I recycle when I can, I don’t drink water out of plastic containers, etc… I just live a fairly simple lifestyle. I would love to have a household powered by only the sun and wind.
The thing is, I’ve never needed anyone to tell me to do this. It’s just the way I am. So some years ago, when it started to be ‘in style,’ I was already doing it. As time went by, the movement became more and more a magnet for catch phrases, over analysis, and hype. To me, it’s always been simple. Use what you need and leave the rest for others or your grandchildren. It doesn’t need to be complicated. I HATE unnecessary complexity in such things.
Much of what bothers me about the ‘green’ crowd of today isn’t the idea of living simply, energy efficiently, frugally, and conservatively. It’s the cult that surrounds it. We have lots of stroking each other, we have lots of ridiculous catch phrases, and we have a media barrage. We also have an entire ‘green’ industry that has found a cash cow for sure.
We need none of that. It’s always been called frugality and it has always been around. My grandfather was probably ‘greener’ than 99% of today’s ‘green crowd.’ So, in essence I do live ‘green’ for the most part, but the modern ‘green movement’ just annoys me to no end.
