OP - We tolerate talented pedophiles for the same reason we tolerate talented theives. Someone is making money off their efforts.

Wow again how lovely is it that now we have one sicko defending another sicko in the court of public opinion. The original O.P. was right on target with this tread. As the old saying goes Woody "takes on to know one"
Are we going to see the "Pedophile defense fund" next? I can see the commercial now: " Because a talented pedophile is a terrible thing to waste".

Don't hound Roman Polanski, says Woody Allen | The Australian

For those who never had a chance to read the details of Roman Polanski's crime against a 13 year old child.....the grand jury testimony is in the links below (2nd & 3rd links are the complete transscripts)

The Smoking Gun: Archive

The Smoking Gun - Polanski The Predator

The Smoking Gun - Polanski The Predator

This man needs to be extradited back to the US to be sentenced and serve time for his crimes.

The fact that many Hollywooders continue to support this man is sickening beyind belief.

There's a difference between appreciating the talent of a person, and liking them as an individual. As an individual, I wouldn't like Ted Nugent, but I like his music. I've heard Bill Murray and George Thorogood can both be jerks, but I enjoy their work.

Being a jerk and sexually abusing children are not even close to being similar. Like has nothing to do with it. Glorifying known sexual predators is quite dissimilar to enjoying someones talent who happens to be a jerk.

I don't care if they're a Satan worshipper, drug dealer, or stone cold killer. Their PERSONAL life has no affect on what they do as an artist.

And that's the operative word here, PERSONAL--like, private, you know, things that don't have to be public knowledge? Everyone has a right to privacy.

I was talking about Roman Polanski, one of the pedophile movie directors listed in the OP.

I believe his case is being processed according to the laws of the land. He's a director, right? I don't know if I've ever s een one of his pictures or not. When I watch a movie, I can rarely tell you who the director is. I can name several Hitchcock pictures, but I doubt if there is another movie whose director I can name right of the top of my head. When I watch a movie, I either like it, or not. Or somewhere in between. I judge it for itself. There are other things in my life that are either more important or more interesting, than worrying about the private lives of people whose names are in the credits of pictures.

I disagree with his sexual preferences, but it doesn't detract from his talent. Could you imagine if I had to delve into the private lives of every artist before I decided whether I could listen to him or not?

"Mozart? I can't listen to Mozart! He was a drug user, and degenerate sex fiend!"
I understood your point when you first made it. I hope you understand mine.

That you completely base your opinion of a person's actions by finding out about their character?

It doesn't matter if they're a skilled worker, if their character is--in your opinion--bad. Did I get that right?
