Sure, if we ever get to a point where a 6-week embryo can be sucked out of a uterus and raised in a Petri dish, I see nothing wrong with that.

I meant if the fetus WAS viable.

And, for those of you who think that women are always making rational decisions regarding abortions, look at this... Women's Suicide Rates Highest After Abortion, New Study

My views are not about taking away a woman's right to have an abortion in the first trimester or when their life is at risk if the pregnancy continues. They ARE about ensuring that women are making INFORMED decisions. They ARE also about protecting kids that are viable and/or those who can think and feel. Period.

Good post.

The majority of abortions done in the 2nd trimester are wanted pregnancies, to married couples, but are done for severe abnormalities, which will not show up until then.

Did you know that?

Girls can end up becoming pregnant with birth control, and other protection and it can and does happen. No protection is 100% and maybe they dont want a child. Nothing wrong with that everyone has their own opinion.

In arguing that women flippantly choose to have late-term abortions, you also forget that the overwhelming majority of women cannot afford them. Late-term elective abortions are not covered by insurance (or, indeed, Medicaid). To pay out of pocket, hospital stays alone run about $1,500 per day. Add to that the cost of the surgeon's services, which, given that this is a major surgery, is going to be at least $10K. Add the anesthesiologist's charge (about $2,500). Add all the blood work and other lab services (let's put it at $1K). Add follow-up care (about $800). Yeah, sure, that describes most young women: the ability to take 3+ days off work or school just for the hell of it, and shell out around $25K, again, for the hell of it. [/end sarcasm]

I beg to differ with you there. There is something that's 100%. It's called not having sex!

As far as the severe abnormalities, I can't decide whether abortion should be allowed then or not. That's an extremely difficult thing for me to decide.

However, by the 2nd trimester, if it's only because she doesn't WANT to have the child, it should NOT be permitted.
