The really sad thing is how much racism robs people of their empathy. I think Shizzle's response to my first post in this thread is a perfect example of the complete apathy I face when trying to describe racism. What did the NAACP have to do with me not wanting to be disrespected by the white cashier at Books A Million who knows? All Shizzle knows is that he's a right winger and all right wingers hate socialism and minorities. At least I took the time to point out the differences in opinion among white people, not so for Shizzle. Believe it or not, I actually share many consevative beliefs and my father has a chemistry PhD and I'm in grad school, but that doesn't matter since clearly my post indicates I'm just playing the race card to get money out of white people. I'm just another one of "those people".
The one where we put down the Malcom X literature and realize we're all stuck on this big ship called "America" and either sail together or sink together. We can throw out how this ethnicity is _____ and this ethnicity does _______ but that's not constructive now is it?

No one should be disrespected, but your doing the exact same thing the cashier did. The cashier thought something about Latinos, and acted on it. So then you turn around and paint with a broad brush White people. And around and around we go.
Every culture contains ignorance. Ever seen how Korean shop owners treat Blacks? Horredous. Same deal with Arabs and Jews and so on...

Everyone is capable of hate, racism, and ethnocentrism. Everyone has instincts and emotions that are beyond our control. Feeling attraction to black or filipina women is perfectly natural, especially if they're cute. However, seeing an interracial couple might trigger anger, and it may be a primal instinct, but it would be wrong to act against someone else on this.
It's never wrong to feel something, only to harm someone else. The difference between a pedophile and a child molester is action. In fact, some child molesters don't even feel any attraction to children--they just do it to victimize someone who can't fight back.
Likewise, racism and hate are two different things, though one can lead to the other too easily. In Germany, the Soviet Union, and other countries, hate and fear lead to the construction of concentration camps. In America, we had the Indian wars (stated policy of genocide in the 1870's, despite public resistance) and internment camps of Japanese American in WWII. Japan also kept Japanese Americans in concentration camps, and the conditions there were worse.
HR 645, ‘National Emergency Centers Establishment Act’, authorizes the Dept. of Homeland Security retroactively to construct and operate camps for holding Americans in time of "National Emergency." Many of these so called "FEMA camps" were built in 1993-94, supported primarily by gun control supporting Congressmen.
/\ Exactly. I despise racism and have seen it first hand. However, I do feel it has become yet another social wedge issue used to justify various wrong-headed behaviors and concepts.
There will always be people who hate, it's part of our fallen nature. My suggestion is to find love in your life, personal and spiritual, and lead by example. MLK didn't shrivel at the bilge thrown at him, he stood strong at the hatred and changed a nation with his words. Amen.

I'm a White American. I prefer to live amongst White Americans who speak English and share my culture. I believe trying to mix races and cultures creates culture clashes, language barriers, political strife, and class warfare. It doesn't work.
I would not be here if my ancestors had not mixed a few things up, along the way.
