Pretty much somebody would have colonized something. Where there is an unequal relationship of power, the stronger civilization will do what is in it's best interests unless the weaker can prevent it. If the British were the weaker civilization it would have fallen prey to some one as well as others fell to it.
The northern half of the USA and all of Canada would be French.
Southern part of the USA would be Spanish.
Alaska would be Russian...
and once again, the Native American indigenus people's would have gotten the shaft anyway.
But of course now, to be fair, those Native Cultures were giving each other the shaft already before any whiteman came along. Isn't imperfect human nature wonder ???

And why would the French or Spanish not be motivated to buy Alaska from the Russians? Prior to the purchase of Alaska, the Russians had scattered settlements alll the way down to California. Maybe the entire Pacific coast would be Russian, if the French or Spanish had less aggressively opened that part of the continent.
You have made the error of pre-selecting a single moment in history, and assuming that the future was locked into place. In fact, even Denmark had colonies in the Caribbean, and might very well have expanded its endeavor without the British to deal with, and we might all be speaking Danish.

Interesting point - but all this is purely hypothetical.
If you look at the superpowers of the day, only Spain and France could rival the Brits. The Danes (and others) would be hard pressed to compete.
I didn't know the Russians had settlements all the way down to California. I'm going to research more of that... Thanks.
As a matter of fact, Spain was already on its way to taxing its empire to death. The Dutch were, in fact, the great naval power of the world at one time, but they taxed themselves to death. So did the French (leading to the French revolution, supported by Jacobites and the remnants of the wealthy Bavarian Illuminati) and the Germans.
In fact, only the British, and to a lesser extent, the Americans, actually try to create a benevolent empire. The Brits protected their colonists, killed VERY few (and usually only on trial for some crime). They invested heavily in their colonies and tried as much as America did to keep the Europeans from colonizing and tyrannizing much of the undeveloped world. The Germans, French, and Spanish simply enslaved all they could, killing anyone who got in their way. The Brits brought the rule of law, construction, schooling, better sanitation, and the highest living standards some of those countries ever enjoyed, even to this day.
We would have probably had to fight the french or spanish for out independence. As to new zealand austrilia who knows.Texas might still be a country of its own but much bigger like then. We'd probaly still have alot of oil.Europe might be doing the goose step too .
I think the United States would be predominantly German speaking, but Texas and California would either be independent, or part of Mexico. Alaska would probably be part of Canada and Canada would be French speaking.
I actually find it funny that English is the language of the US, being as only 9% of the population of the US are "English Americans".
Likely dung heaps having been colonized by the French, Dutch or Spanish instead-no offense, but seriously, history speaks for itself of which European colonizing nation left the best legacy.
