What I propose is everybody concerened live their lives as conservatively as they can. You are right in the big picture, as a society/civilization/world we will do nothing. Theres too many ignorant folks who think that as long as we can feed ourselves there arent too many of us. Nevermind the destruction of habitat we cause, never mind that they are usually the same people you see crying over development of wetlands or the plight of some woodpeker.
The simple fact is if we need the infrastructure we have in order to survive where we live then where we live the human population exceeds the carrying capacity. In other words we are over populated.
When natural populations exceed carrying capacity they die offuntil theres enough food. What we do would be akin to deer raising crops or importing grain because they ate everything in the woods. Its easy for us to admit that they would need to do such things only because they were over populated. Somehow when human animals do it its different in our minds. But the fact remains that there are too many of us.

Do we go to the poorest part of Africa and say "Sorry the earth has to many people we need to kill your children" What would you do if we were overpopulated? I beleve for every person born a person dies. So what is your solution?
One solution is simple . Take away the fertility of women and you reduce population growth

Given that once impregnated a woman is out for 9 months for gestation and the man that impregnated her can potentially have sex and impregnant hundreds of women over a 9 month period, I'd suggest if you are fair dinkum with your simple solution then it would make more sense to take away the fertility of the male.

Nope, but thats almost irrelevant. Very few American families have lots of kids anymore, its more prevelent in third world countries.

We probably cant help it. After all is said & done we are just another species & as long as we can reproduce we will, once we actually destroy enough of the environment that it cant support 10's of billions of people something or other will kill off most of us. Just like deer in a fenced in woodlot or fish in a stagnant pond.

Ha! Sorry! I shouldn't laugh crux but I got a mental picture of that ^ little quote on a protest placard!

Not to mention that the vasectomy is a much more simple and easily performed procedure than tubal ligation or hysterectomy or radical diathermy.

Yes!!! Kill the sperm banks!!!! Save the eggs!!!!! Indeed!!!
It's a real shame the Chinese didn't adopt it as their motto instead of their other population control plan, which has turned into a human rights violation of epic proportions.

No need to worry. Human beings are to earth as dust mites are to a mattress. When the population is in excess to the food sources there is disease, die off and then subsequent re-population. Earth will find an incurable pandemic to reign in our numbers and all will be well.
