Morals and values are on the decline.
I understand when you said: "There seems to be a flood of people who don't seem to care about anyone but themselves"

Dude, unless you live off welfare or are a trust fundie, you are going to have to work & hustle for your money. Especially the way things are now, you can have hundreds or more people competing for the same job.

Now you're really going off into a tangent. Where did I attack Asian nations for their admirable attempts & successes in becoming globally competitive?

I dont want to argue about anything... But i do think that now aday no one is willing to help another out. Example, My elderly next door neighbour... I moved here a year or so agao, and i did not even realise anyone lived next to me... Until a few weeks before xmas, I was taking my daughter to the hospital ( i have 4 children) she is 2, for her shunts.... i seen the lady waving frantically at the window, I was shocked and went over. Long story short she has lived there over 40 years, Most of the people on my street have lived here over 20 years. 8 years ago she became housebound she is now 97 years old. Since then no one has seen her, helped her, got a few bits of shopping for her..... But she did to those, like looked after there children, Cooked and took food to them when they were ill etc etc.

I spoke to a lady on the street and asked about My neighbour and if she had seen her (m knowing she had not) she said no, but she is lovely always helped everyone. I did not even know she was still in the house! This to me was very sad. That no one took the time to replay the favor, knowing she has no living family as her son died 6 years ago. I know hwlp her daily despite having 4 children one who is sick and a disabled husband.

Maybe im too soft, and want to help... i dont know.

Another example. Last month we went to a family day event. Where there were lots of activitys raising money for the condition my husband has. My eldest son who is 7 was playing with some other children, and was in my sight... i was with my children and husband and i was helping do the food. I watched as my son fell of his bike, and got his leg trapped.
I quickly took of all the pans, and turned off the oven, and got my daughter in her chair so i could get to him quick. As i was doing this, i seen 4 people, 1 man, 3 womwn... all had kids, walk past him.. look at him crying and walk past.
When i got there he was hysterical. It had taken me less than a few mins to get to him but to him he was frightned and it felt longer.

I could not beleive that no one stopped to help. Thankfully i had seen, and was watching him. But makes me glad that prehaps i am a over protective parent and dont let them out my sight. Remonds me of the video from china where that woman and child were hit, and people just walked on by.

To me this is really disheartening. And i know we are all strangers, But surely a bit of kindness would go along way.

Default youre right. and a good parent.

yes. youre point is absolutely correct. people nowadays are too busy trying to scramble and fight for the last dollar before they will help someone else. its very sad, but an inconvient truth. morals degraded when the earth overpopulated itself. how is it ever going to be possible for 7 billion people to live and coexist? to all live 1st rate with a decent house, a working form of trasportation, an ok paying job, healthy with a healthy family? but you already know the answer. and its not gonna happen in my lifetime.

kinda funny how its far easier to end up owing money somehow than to earn it honestly.

I'm NOT talking about religion. I'm talking about general morals. Things like people helping each other out, people taking responsibility and being held accountable for THEIR own actions, etc. There seems to be a flood of people who don't seem to care about anyone but themselves and who absolutely refuse to accept consequences for their own behavior. How is this affecting society? What will be the effects if the trend continues?

Curious as to everyone's thoughts....

yup, lack of morals can destroy a society, and porn is a big factor in demoralizing the general population.

In my opinion, our moral failure was exacerbated when we got a McCarthy era phrase in our pledge but no anti-hypocrisy laws to go along with it.

It's been like that the whole time--this isn't new.

People are often unethical, selfish, and a big pain in the ass. Not everyone is like this (at least not all the time), but it's a good thing to keep in mind.

How about some old time morality:

Do unto others as you would have them do unto yourself.

Do not lie, steal or kill.

Do not decieve for profit.

Do not become greedy.

We seem to have lost all of these in our current beast eat beast "civilization".

Why are our elected representatives not held to higher Standards than professional athletes as role models for the community?
