IMO, early Americans, and much of pre 1900's people, would think those who are considered impoverished today are spoiled wimps. One of our greatest presidents built and lived in a small cabin with no running water, plumbing, electricity, no air conditioning, tv etc....

How did humanity ever survive before healthcare, cable tv, cell phones or welfare programs?

POVERTY’S LOST WAR
. . .
It is a common belief that poverty is caused by insufficient money / not enough money, and is readily cured by "wealth redistribution."

But poverty is not caused by lack of money. If it was, let us permanently end poverty. Let us credit everyone with 22 billion billion quatloos - more money than they can every spend. No one ever needs money again. But are they no longer poor?
If no one will labor, sweat, produce, transport, and trade surplus usable goods and services for that money, the money is useless, worthless and meaningless.

The problem is not resolved by redistributing wealth or even equal distribution of money. Money is not prosperity. Prosperity is the production, equitable trade, and enjoyment of surplus usable goods and services. Human labor multiplied by machinery and technology, using power and resources, is essential - money is not. Anything that interferes with prosperity - including socialist government and its horde of parasites - is the real source of poverty.

I think the point is clear. Poverty is very subjective and blown way out of proportion.

Poverty is when a person's wealth and income level are lower than the avarage in their area (city, county or state).

Poor is having a Net Worth of less than a years average income of the lower 90% of a countries population.

Does any nation make accounting mandatory in the schools? Is the purpose of that ignorance to keep the lower classes running on a treadmill for the upper classes? Then there is really no true desire to eliminate poverty. It is just lip service.

This is rarely discussed in the US
I grew up in another country and over there they always mentioned "Basic basket" which is the cost for a family of ... I think 4 people, to buy food for one month.

NOBODY in US news media ever mention that.

I don't see how this criteria would define poor. It is typical for people to live well with no sizable net worth. Having a decent income provides a decent living contrary to ones assets.

Sure, people can live well on cash flow and that is how they are supposed to believe things should work.

They are supposed to run on a treadmill making the really wealthy, more wealthy. No mandatory accounting in the schools to change the NAZInomic culture. Of course robots may eliminate their cash flow on 20 or 30 years.
