If you replace "disarmed" with "armed" you will have an accurate representation of the picture in the USA today.
E.g.., "An armed people are not now protecting harmless people from predators." Not in my country, anyway.

As for Switzerland, a man walking down down the street with his loaded military-issue rifle would attract a great deal of attention, somewhat mitigating the probability that an armed Swiss man would use it to commit a felony. Those guns held in Swiss homes do not equate to saturday night specials in Newark.

Solution: Don't put an NRA sticker on your window.

Problem solved.

I live so far removed from civilization, I don't have any "state-of-the-art security system". My security system is either Smith and Wesson or Glock.

Oooh. Big brave macho man.

When you're not at home, who pulls the trigger? You would really kill a man if he looked like he was going to steal your lawn mower, wouldn't you? How many people have you killed?

C'mon. Wasn't it you just a little while ago talking about bickering and/or childishness?

I asked him a simple question and he gave me a one word answer. Nobody threatened to kill one another.

So then what is your argument, since now you've tactly admitted it's not guns?

We could talk about the difference between Newark, NJ and Switzerland, but that'd be "politically incorrect".

[1] Name high crime locations that also have a high percentage of private ownership of arms by law abiding folks.

[2] Are you so sure that open carrying of arms is unusual in Switzerland?

Happy to comply. Alexandria, Louisiana. Crime rate 1115.1, the 16th highest city in the nation. It's in Rapides Parish, which ranks fifth highest in the nation, with private firearms in 52.8% of all homes. (We have no way of knowing how many of those are "law abiding folks".)

Any more questions?
