Bigotry goes both ways. The ultra conservative bible thumper is just one. Same applies for an ultra liberal educator who manipulates and brainwashes. Any form of this activity in our education system should be condemed.

What the helll ever happened to allowing people to think for themselves?

Give people the basic tools they need to make decisions and learn and let them be individuals. Damn, what is wrong with people! Everyone wants.....control! That is all this is about!

What would I like to see? Every student, every day, is required to hand in a short paper challenging something that he learned in school the previous day. Ungraded paper, the validity of the argument immaterial. But forcing every student every day to pay enough attention to what they are told and to think critically about it.

Then turn the teachers loose to say whatever they want.

If we train the children to think uncritically about everything they are told, they will grow up and do exactly that. They will think uncritically about everything they are told. If they're denied Medicare, the Scooter Store will pay for their scooter.

To be honest, how many people are smart enough and have the depth of experience to draw upon to challenge things critically. Just wander around these forums and you will see person after person spouting off strong opinions about things they have minimal knowledge of.

As much as we need more critical thinkers, perhaps a course on shutting the heck up when a person is uneducated on a topic would be worth it's weight in gold.

This country is awash in stupid people with strong opinions...and to your point lack the skill set (critical thinking) to be successfully educated on a topic. Yay, that rant felt good.
