I think that everyone has a story to tell, I just don't see why the focus has to be put on Michelle Obama.
MightyQueen, why don't they tell your story, or anyone of 300 million Americans story, I sure they would be just as interesting.

I'm not the First Lady, that's why my story isn't on the front page of the NY Times. And those stories (of ordinary people) ARE told, especially when you have someone in your family addicted to ancestry.com.
I am just happy that one of MY kind is finally in the White House: Michelle Obama is only an inch and a half shorter than I am. Perhaps she can do something about the lack of choices of clothing for tall women in this country!

Yeah they tend to get into all that "stuff". When they grow up they'll wise up. Not saying I'm a Rush or Dubya fanatic cause I'm not sure those folks have grown up either.

Limbaugh does what he has to do to keep people listening, and advertisers spending money. That's why he's so rich.

He wouldn't be rich if few agreed with him. That he speaks and many want to listen is informative. Even if you may not agree it sometimes is beneficial to listen.

Why should I care? My ancestory came from Germany, of peasants without a chance, of indenture and servitude, of lifelone obligation without any real chance of freedom. Yet I am supposedly free.
Do my parents love me? After decades of power struggle with racial tension where have we come?
Why have we focused on aspects of life beyond our contemplation? I did not know who my great great grand parents were, I know not why they did what they did. Yet I speculate that they have been lost into a world of white occupation and oppression...white slavery nonetheless. Yet this shall not be spoken in a politically correct world dominated by other ideas.
Why does America no longer love me when my American parents do? My wife being of Native American ancestory asks why does this all matter. My wife also being of Irish ancestory asks why should we not consider that Michelle's ancestor, he being a slave owner, makes her a part of all this. My wife says we none of her ancestory owned a slave. I am unable to trace to my ancestory in Germany to answer except to say that those who I can trace were displaced during the greatest oppression some say known to recent time. Yet why do we not care what happens in the Orientalism that we, as American pigs, seem fit the consume?
Do we love each other? Do we love our slaves?
Michelle is a woman, she has children. May we all know and support each other in our societal roles.
Why should Michelle's ancestory matter to any of us? We are Americans!
My wife is not my slave, nor are my children. And I am not a slave unto them. Ain't it about time that the USA gets over the concept and look at what is REALLY going on?
Give me good policy and half way reasonable decision making and that is all that can be asked.
I'm sure others have seen my threads. What is a collective right? I demand that our collective rights get over this malfeasant idea of slavery least you choose to buy only an entirely American made product.

If you have any understanding of American history and the history of the American peoples, you would not ask such foolish questions.
I am no fan of Obamanomics, but Michelle Obama is our First Lady and the embodiment of the American experience. She deserves our respect.

Much the same as George & Laura Bush were treated with respect the past 8 years.

This is an interesting point.
Personally, I can't stand Limbaugh. It's not that I disagree with his content, because basically I'm a conservative.
I just get sick of his repugnant obnoxiousness. And I know that it's mostly a show & all, but I just don't like that kind of crap.
Mostly though, I turned him off a long time ago, as a result of one thing: Back when he had his TV show, he made a point of putting an unflattering picture of Chelsea Clinton up on the big screen - then proceeded to spend the rest of the show laughing about how ugly she was. It was one of the most unflattering pictures of Chelsea, during an an unflattering period of her life.
That was simply over the line unacceptable. Period. Had I been able to do so, I honestly believe I would have punched the blow-hard in the mouth, then proceeded to kick the crap out of him when he was on the ground.
You do NOT do that to teenage girls - especially on national TV!

Ditto. And add..."Much as the same as we middle class taxpayers and responsible CITIZENS are being treated with respect."
Heck they called Dubya a chimp for years... talk about lack of respect. Not that I favored his policies but W never brought the issue to the table about his ancestory being derived from a chimpanze's genes.

Cogent Questions Re-Affirmed
Do we love each other? Do we love our slaves?

The reason America can't quite "get over it" is because of the vestigial class divides originating from American slavery that still exist. Just look at the housing representative of the drastic economic divide that still remains in our inner cities. Some people still live in virtual slave quarters. And their seperateness whether self-imposed or societal still mimics the seperateness of slave and master. Yes, I am an American, yet I still recognize our failings so we can build towards something better.
