The last 20-30 years, with the 80's right at the pinnacle of it all. To me, that's about when things started to go downhill. That seems about the time when we started to get dumbed down, when hedonism became the norm, when we could buy our identity at the store and when everything started to get so damn fake.

My bet would be consumer culture. Future generations will remember us as lazy fat pigs with an insatiable appetite for plasticky garbage.

Reality TV shows and lima beans as the vegetable that comes with your meal in some restaurants.

But seriously, it will be disregard for laws.

Boxing and football. According to an article I read today in New Yorker, anything over 5 years exposure to Boxing leaves about 20% of participants suffering from permanent brain damage that manifests itself as a significant disability by age 50, and the same for maybe 10% of football players. President T Roosevelt tried to ban football in 1905, but was narrowly outvoted on condition of significant rule changes including the forward pass. Every Friday night, a high school football player experiences the equivalent of a car crash at 25 mph without seatbelts. The life expectancy of NFL linemen is less than 60.

And along with that--inability to 'work cooperatively', perhaps?

Hey HEY! Watch it. Lima beans rock.

I think carrot sticks are the downfall of western civilization. You just leave lima beans (and their tasty cousins, butter beans) out of this. What did they ever do to you?

Our liberal attitude and the decline caused by the inability to face reality.
