I like the idea of rewarding innovation, excellence, community, hard work, and responsible choices. And I think we do for the most part. I don't necessarily agree that social programs undermine that and automatically result in dependence on government assistance and hand outs. It will be abused, just like anything else. Can government programs be retooled so that they are more temporary and are abused less? I think so.
I, like many others I'm sure, have been outraged when I see people taking advantage of various programs, and living off the system. It does become a burden to the rest of us when people abuse the system. But I find it funny that nobody gets just as outraged by the wealthiest group of Americans doing everything they can to shelter/hide their income so that they don't have to pay taxes on it - I'd venture to guess that the taxes they're evading costs us at least as much as the social program abuse. But fewer people care as much because they tend to congratulate the wealthy on their success and criticize the people who need assistance. It just seems a little hypocritical.
Lucid response. It all comes down to value. There are wealthy people who don't hold value, they might have inherited the money or are in the process of spending every penny. There are wealthy people that have the value, they definitely deserve every penny and no one should limit their wealth. Then there are abusive wealthy people... the Enron type, the Tyco international, Worldcom, Madoff... there are many lessons learned. I like the show "American Greed" on CNBC, it has many stories of greedy people. They are definitely not the models for value, on the contrary they take value, ride on coattails without adding or at least returning any value. Who is at fault?

Fools should not invest, and dishonesty should be fined.

You know who is more dishonest than the Modoff's of the world? Homeless bums who think the world belongs to them, who soil our cities with their presence, and who ignore all self-responsibility.
Oh yes, let's not forget liberal politicians who pretend they care about the poor and downtrodden, but really only care about themselves. Pollticians like Obama, and Pelosi and Reid and their Cabal.
Enviro-terrorists like Algore who keeps preaching about global warming when there isn't anything man can or could do to create or abate it.

Yes, Toto, we aren't in Kansas anymore.

I'm not worried about socialism. I am more worried about this nation possibly revolting back to the pre 1950's way of doing things, if you know what I mean. Personally, it is not socialism that worries me.

Exactly what is that happened in the pre-1950s that worries you? Was it limited government, self-reliance, freedom?
Hey, if you don't like socialism, move to a third world country, buy a farm, and live off the land. I, for one, enjoy driving on interstates, having police, departments to ensure my food isn't tainted with horrible things,to ensure my kids aren't sucking on lead infused pacifiers,to compel companies not to dump toxic waste into my drinking supply, 4mpg cars that spew nasty things into the air i breathe, require certifications for specialized professions such as doctors to be legit, etc, etc. I understand the teaparty crowd was perfectly happy to pay taxes to bomb brown people in another country despite their innocence, but please, **** about using our tax dollars to improve general benefits of our OWN CITIZENS!
Taxes are a necessary part of a civilized society. If you don't believe in it... well move.... to some ****hole that doesn't tax or provide anything. I can't think of one to be honest, but you can probably create a teabag david korrish style compound and eat muskrat for the rest of your life!

Why? Where did you get the idea that people whose interests are not served by the system have no right to remain here and voice their concerns about it?
The system is that people who are interested in an alternative way of doing things get to say so, and be heard. If you don't like that system, then YOU go to a third world country.

Wow, you missed the point. I was implying that if you don't enjoy the benefits of a "socialist" society, you're going to have to move to a third world dictatorship to avoid everything. Unfortunately for you, most everything you hold in regard about our country is the result of citizens paying taxes. If you don't like it, you can move to Liberia or some other similar hell hole and finance everything on your own (health-care, security, roads, etc). I guess sarcasm is lost on the red scare crowd. You assumed that I was telling you to get out, when in fact I was telling you the only way to move to a non-socialist society is to go to a failed third world hell hole.
Of course, I would prefer that you just move to a crappy bible belt state and attempt a secession. I would love to see how quickly Alabama or Arkansas turns into a mexican border town when the rednecks there reject the price of admission for a real country.
When your point consists almost entirely of hyperbole, it is easy to miss.
Did you get all of those rep points for avoiding discussion? I'm assuming you're not one of the few that will have increased taxes (250k plus crowd), so what are you bitching about? Please substantiate your claims instead of throwing out catch phrases from mental rejects such as Palin, Beck and Plumber.
I'm guessing you're probably a low class redneck whose upset because a black man is the president. You're also probably bitter about clinton because he took over and fixed everything that republicans screwed up in the previous 12 years. Clinton left with the largest surplus in history, an economy at the highest point in history, and the only thing you can complain about is he got a freaking blow job. I imagine most closet case republicans were upset it wasn't a 12 year old boy like they're accustomed to. It must be harsh to know that all historic trends regarding the economy point to liberals and democrats being the better at managing things than the tards...
Regardless, you're largely irrelevant, and your type will never have the economic power to represent a true threat to our "socialist" society. You will ***** and moan about our "mooslim" president while collecting social security and driving your Chevy POS. I'm not too concerned about your type, you'll be dead soon. I guess the main thing I'm upset about is the fact that Obama's health policy will allow you to live longer than your horrible insurance company would have based off of your pre-existing conditions (being a poor, stupid redneck who had the audacity to become sick).
