Seriously, I'd love to hear from anyone here who frequents the library and goes to view the porn? Do you want a child there in the vicinity to be looking at what you are and would you feel it appropriate?

I've used libraries for email when traveling, and sometimes corresponded with people whith whom I had an intmate relationship, and had words Xed out. I was once in a library where the terminals were situated so the librarian at the desk could see them. The first thing I did was sent an email to myself that said "Wow, the librarian has a great rack", just in case she was looking.
This was debated on the news here recently in Las Vegas. Porn is currently allowed in the libraries here and a lot of parents are upset about it. You can go on a computer here and everyone around you can see the screen. I think they should leave it the way it is, so my answer is yes. Where I am from in Phoenix, it was not allowed, which I do not think is right.

I think the question should really be, what would be the purpose of porn in a library?

A lot of people read Playboy for the articles. Many libraries loan videos of popular movies---some of which are R-rated. It is not uncommon in the 21st century for serious and legitimate material to contain elements that are likely to offend people who call a nipple 'pornography'.

No, I don't think so. Libraries are for the use of all ages, and some things are not appropriate for children. It's not a difficult thing to filter porn without filtering necessary educational content. A parent who takes their child to the public library should have a reasonable expectation that their child won't be exposed to adult content there.
Besides, if you're so poor that you are forced to get your porn at the public library, maybe you should be spending that time finding a decent job instead of spanking one in the carrels.
I tend to lean to the right on most issues but I do believe that the public library should not deny access to anything. I do believe they should have a section where children can't go where this can be accessed.
With the above being said; I am also of the opinion that anyone that would actually view porn in a public library or any other public place is a class A loser and would probably be doing it for the simple reason that they get pleasure from doing something that they think will annoy others or simply just to bring attention to themselves.
The job of a librarian is in part a job of denying access to certain materials they believe citizens do not need "Public" access to. Out of the Millions of books published each year a librarian grants the Public free access to probably a small number of them. Why can' t they do the same thing with the millions of website available?
The public library I frequent filters the computers in part because they can't possibly accommodate every one who would like view porn in the computer lab. (they call it a Lab not Lounge)

I wouldn't consider that in the same category as internet porn.
Call me crazy, but I don't think children should be walking around the library without their parents. If one's child is being supervised, then one wouldn't have to worry about said child seeing something maybe they shouldn't. In the off case that they do, sounds like you just need to have a discussion with that child about the situation. Censorship should not be an option.
