I, for one, don't see that intelligent design and evolution are mutually exclusive. One addresses the concept of how things got started, and one addresses methodology. They really don't answer the same questions.
Part of the problem lies in the fact that proponents of neither group seem to be willing to understand that not all members of the other group are extremists. Not all people who believe in a supreme creator take the book of Genesis as literal documentation of how things happened. Not all people who believe in evolution completely reject the concept of a supreme creator.
Another part of the problem lies in some tendencies of both groups. Creationists have a tendency to want to prosthelytize. Evolutionists have a tendency to be smug and arrogant. Stop it, both of you. You are acting like asses.
Very good points. I also agree with your general assesment of both groups. The same happens with the political threads. No open mindedness out there. Well, I correct myself, not enough of it, take care.
Truth is not necessarily the bottom line. Each individual has his own set of criteria concerning avenues to self-fulfillment. There are many people who are living good and happy and productive lives, and presenting a truth to them would not necessarily make their personal lives better or more fruitful, and in fact could dismantle a structure that has performed satisfactorily for them.
If a person wishes to move closer to the truth, there are conventional, logical ways of approaching that goal. If a person does not wish to do that homework, there is no point waving it in front of him.
Good comment! Part of the problem is that on both sides of the issue there are those that push their issue and seems it is their mission in life to point to others how wrong they are in so many different ways from sincere intent to arrogance, take care.
It's inconsistent with the narcissistic ego of the know-it-alls, who have known it all since Sunday School.
"Amen" to that.
There is a cat on the radio, brother Camping, who is preaching on a national radio show the the end of the world, and judgement day is on May 21, 2011, and the really scary thing is that some rubes actually believe him.

But there are those that say they know it all in the science community also. Those who say they know how life began, or claim that evolution explains how life began.
Believe me, I'm as hard as the next person on the religious folks who refuse to acknowledge evolution for what it is, the process by which biological organisms change over time to become newer, better, more diverse things. But it doesn't accurately explain how life began.
