Our down town has few, or no Public Bathrooms. the Few that are there, are kept locked. Yet if Nature makes her Call on Auntie Bess from Cleveland, while visiting, she is out of luck. --Most doorways have that certain unmistakable odor. And a Feller will be quickly hauled off to jail, if he dares relieve himself anywhere. And yet, to put in Restrooms is not in the future plans of Our fair City. How is it in your Town?

No.

What is it with the sense of entitlement everyone seems to have these days?

I usually have no issue finding a bathroom, just about anywhere I am.

In many countries in the world, including Mexico, public restrooms are staffed by a full-time attendant, and there is a small charge. It is actually a gratuity for the attendant, who may be otherwise unpaid, and the amount is specified, (in Mexico, usually about ten cents) but a person who doesn't have any change or literally can't afford to pay, doesn't need to. It's more of an honor system, and is often just a cup with coins in it next to the door. The presence of an attendant assures that it is safe and clean. Honor systems seem to work very well in every country except the USA.

This became a highly charged issue in Chicago. Wrigley Field is surrounded by neighborhoods, and the restrooms in the ballpark could not accommodate 30,000 people at once after the game, so they were going wherever they could once outside. There were arrests made for public urination, where there were no other alternatives.

As for cities being "required" to have public facilities, I can't imagine what level of government would have the authority to require them to do so.

In Russia the same thing applies - you pay a very small fee to use the "loo", but it's there, reasonably clean (usually).

I don't see any point in having some *requirement* that facilities must be provided, however, if you provide facilities, it would reduce the frequency of people, ahem, improvising.

You forgot that this is the USA, and there is no free enterprise. You can't do anything, without violating a half-dozen laws. Not to mention liability exposure (no pun intended).

Not for me. I can write my name, as I Skate backwrds down the Street. I need no help. I mean for your Moms. and Grand parents who come Down town to take a look around. I'll tell the next Old Lady that needs to go, to pee in her purse. This is America, after all, and we don't provide for our tax payers, unless you want to go to college. "hey Buddy, got a dry pocket?? Well you won't for long"
