Default Are people getting away with being inconsiderate?

You'll notice that I have issues with loud mufflers.
There are a few noisy neighbors in my development. 3 have motorcycles with loud mufflers. 2 let their engines run for at least 10 minutes and occasionally rev the engines. Sometimes their biker buddies do the same thing. The sound goes through our walls and some car alarms go off. They know that this wakes up our baby since we have mentioned it to them. There was only one time when I went out said "What the hell!" when a buddy of theirs held down the horn in his truck one night. Other than that we never complained, just MENTIONED. Now it seems that they are purposely parking closer to my unit and taking their time putting on gear while their loud engines idle. My neighbors will complain to me about it but won't say anything to them.

Another example would be the paper delivery person. He also has a loud muffler. I never noticed him until we moved our baby to the front room and now she wakes up around 4:45 am because of this guy.

Don't these people know that they are being inconsiderate? Are there people who stand up to these people or do most of us put up with it?

They probably dont care one way or the other. It's the "It doesn't annoy me, so who else could care, right?" attitude. For me personally, it is all about what time of the night or morning that it happens. Generally speaking, between 8 am and 10 pm, they can do as they please.

Then why would you expect anything to change? Any reason you haven't tried calling the cops?

Most do, of course. They simply don't care because they are obnoxious losers who think they own the world. Basically a spoiled brat child in an adult body.

Can't speak for the rest, but I don't put up w/that BS for 2 seconds.

For me, "quiet hours" are 24/7. Nobody should have a "right" to be rude and obnoxious at ANY time. Keep in mind I'm not talking about someone who has a party once in a blue moon and it gets a little loud or they happened to be working on their car/etc. What he describes is something else entirely.

Youll never win that one. To you they are inconsiderate because of the noise they make. To them your just another whiner, lots of people complain all the time. In a way it only provokes them to push you more. If you make them mad enough, and they are really lower grade people, you may have to worry about what they will do to your property when the sun goes down. Its easier just to leave people alone. If its an apartment complex, then you can move to a higher rent complex. High rent complexes tend to controll rude behaivor more. The old saying you get what you pay for is so very true.

Right.....take the "easy" way out. Couldn't disagree more...ignoring a problem like that is not exactly the best way to stop it, and that kind of attitude is EXACTLY why we're seeing such a rise in these losers...people are more and more afraid of or can't be bothered to do anything about rude behavior.

Again, it's much like dealing with a spoiled kid: if a bratty kids wants to finger paint on the walls when he knows better, well it's easier to just let him do it vs stopping him and him screaming and carrying on.

Really it's a choice of doing something about it or just putting up with it. Neither are pleasant, but one gets you somewhere, where the other you're just mired in the same **** day after day.

PS moving to a more expensive apt area is not always feasible for a lot of people.

I have tried being civil about it and I am not sure what our rights are during the hours of 8 am to 11 pm. They are very good about stopping it after 11 pm and if they do in the late hours they drive off before I realize what is going on. If I call the cops, I will surely have three enemies in my development. I have complained before about other people.

I called the newspaper to today and complained about their delivery person. As far as my neighbors, I just feel like I have to be a little more careful now that a little one is in the picture.

Right, I agree. Another neighbor had a loud party and I went outside and asked if his kids (this was about 10 pm) could play on the other side. They had no issues with this. Funny thing, my rude neighbors had the nerve to complain about him the next day and to me!

If this was 25 years ago I would agree with what you said. However in the nanny state, lawyer ruled society we live in its no longer feasable to stand up to dead beats. Most conflicts like that lead to the dead beats getting physical, or destroying your property. As we all know criminals have far more protection than do victims. They most likely have nothing to lose. Lets say for example the OP does continue to confront them, and of course they mock him, then retaliate in the dead of the night. The police will rarely do anything about it. You pretty much better have a picture of them hitting you, or vandalizing your property. If you attempt to defend yourself against these people, YOU will end up in jail and end up being sued. Since most of these folks are young, have no money they have nothing to fear from these things because they will not lose much, since they likely have very little. However if you have a good job, money in the bank, or a house, some lawyer representing the dead beats will sue you, and you may go to jail. By standing up to them you risk everything you have, while those who provoked you risk next to nothing. A generation ago you could have settled this the old fashioned way, but nowadays you will find yourself in alot of trouble if it escalates to that level. They have all the power, you have next to none. Its easier to move than risk all that.

That's really disturbing.
You mentioned, your neighbors don't like it either. Have you thought about making a writen complaint signed by you and some of your neighbors? Such complaint/petition should go to your local PD. When contacting the noise making people, the police officer should tell them something like "there are five people complaining about your acting...", so it wouldn't be just you.
