So I just watched a commercial from Ashley Lynn's Tanning (I think they are only local to Omaha). Anyway, this commercial's tag line was "Kiss your pasty white skin goodbye" and "Get to Ashley Lynn's Tanning".
Of course I'm not a racially sensitive person so when I heard it I didn't think anything of it. However, I got to thinking a little more and was like, "WTF?"
Had that commercial said "Kiss your poopy brown skin goodbye", there would have been hell to pay! If it were even possible to get it by the networks, the FCC would have a hell of a time with it. Not to mention the NAACP and the like - then all the subsequent lawsuits from everyone and their grandmother.
My point, I don't think I'm ok with that commercial. Not because I'm offended, but because I feel like being a petty a-hole and playing the race card this time - from the perspective of a young white man.
Well there's still a bleaching cream for African Americans carried by Walgreen's called "Dr. Fred Palmer's Skin WHITENER" and in East Indian stores they sell a bleaching soap with advertising like "aren't you tired of being dark and unattractive or don't you want whiter skin and love?" And from what an East Indian friend told me that is the sanitized version for American consumers. In India they are using the politically incorrect version. Also many hair relaxers for African Americans may as well come on out and say "get rid of your nappy azzed hair" because the picture speaks louder than words.
I figured you would have. That and the Quicktrim commercial with Kim Kardashian and her equally untalented and fat sister drive me nuts.
Actually I don't watch much TV, so I'm a little surprised that I even saw the Ashley Lynn commercial.
The sad truth about really really stupid commercials is that they apparently work, or they wouldn't keep producing them. And that doesn't bode well for the IQ of Americans.

As H.L. Mencken observed (and this was back in the middle-1920s, before the national I.Q. was brought down even lower by television advertising), "You can't go broke underestimating American intelligence."
