Non-sequitur is not a pseudo-intellectual term. It's a real one. Neither is it pompous. Of course it can be used in pompous ways by pseudo-intellectuals.

I hate it when people bring up examples of bad things we do that are legal/commonplace/accepted in order to justify other bad things. There is such a departure from real logic there...
