This is a question for a physicist or hydro engineer; My school project is coming due and is very important and I would appreciate an answer from one of these professionals.

SITUATION:
A 36 inch pipe in driven down in a body of water 200 feet deep and achored firmly in a vertical position at the bottom below the earth.
A 6 inch hole is drilled 10 feet from the bottom of the pipe on the circumference of the pipe. The water inside the pipe is evacuated completely.

Question 1:

What would be the pressure of the water flowing through the 6 inch hole to fill the inside of the pipe? What is the flow rate? Provide flow rates for an 8 inch and 12 inch holes.

Question 2.

If in question 1 above, the hole in the pipe is 12 inches in diameter and the water in flowing through it ---to fill an open tank 120 feet in diameter a the level just below the 12 inch hole opening. What size of pump would be required to empty the tank while maintaining a level in the tank anywhere between the bottom of the tank and below the 12 inch hole opening on the pipe?

Please send your response to tansane@bellsouth.net

Thank you for your response.

Trevor
