I'm getting my 50 year old Federal Pacific 100 AMP (at best) panel replaced next week. I will ask about a dedicated circuit for a plug-in EV but also was wondering is there such thing as a more efficient panel or are they all pretty much the same? GE seems to be the brand of choice.
Had not heard of any effeciency differences in the main breaker panels. Wouldn't the efficiency be at the plug in for the particular appliance (appliance side of the outlet) rather than the breaker?
If you don't get your answer here you might try over in the "House" sub-forum where you are more likely to find an electrician to answer.
Panel itself makes no difference... but what goes into it... Btw: if you're going to have a dedicated circuit for an EV... not sure if you're running a renewable energy system of any sort, if you're not you might also think about doing another dedicated circuit for solar or wind, with a line running to the outside of the house and then covered. Makes your life easier should you ever decide to do it later on, and adds a little value to your home if you ever decide to sell it... cheap if you're replacing the box...
My two cents... for what it's worth.
