This really is outrageous. Officially today this Michigan heritage breed pig farmer, and others like him, are declared felons by the Michigan DNR.

Coming to your state soon.........
Yeah, super nuts. DNR didn't even show up. Didn't even contact him.
I cannot believe they are making this a felony. Bureaucrats gone wild.

Are there any really large industrialized pig lots in Michigan? if so this may just be them using the State bureaucracy to eliminate the competition. Somebody should investigate the source of this new regulation to see who came up with the idea.

This was hinted at. Notice how he said he heard about the change. Stupidity there though is I can't think of a single pig that wouldn't have one of those characteristics. Smells fishy. The DNR hasn't documented or shown evidence of any of their claims.
How are they allowed to make a declaratory ruling on their own order? Way too much of this goes on in all these govt agencies.

There are two political agendas at work here. According to Baker’s complaint, DNR has tried unsuccessfully for many years to have the legislature eliminate hunting estates and preserves. In these facilities, privately owned pigs and other animals live in a contained natural environment where customers pay for a chance to hunt and harvest these animals. DNR earns revenue from fees paid by those hunting on public lands; getting rid of private hunting preserves would increase the department’s income.

What a piece of work. Wonder what the fines are?

Default Michigan DNR outlaws sporting swine breeds

From the Michigan DNR's website, October 2011
DNR - DNR Order Listing Sporting Swine as Invasive Species Takes Effect

MICHIGAN DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
In the Matter of Michigan Animal Farmers Association
Request for Declaratory Ruling
Part 413 (Transgenic and Nonnative Organisms), of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as Amended,
MCL 324.41301
et seq. Invasive Species Order Amendment No. 1 of 2011
http://www.michigan.gov/documents/dn...L_371200_7.pdf

Conveniently, this report from the Michigan DNR on feral hog sightings and killings is dated the day AFTER their rule making heritage breed Michigan pig farmers felons went into effect. Several days following the state agricultural committee's meeting linked earlier in this thread.

These numbers are very iffy and certainly don't support their claims. Heads need to roll on this one. Somebody needs to be held accountable for the ISO.

Outlaw private hunts and small farms at the same time. Again industry gets what it pays for.

Thumbs down Michigan DNR induced pig slaughter has begun

NaturalNews exclusive: Michigan government unleashes armed raids on small pig farmers, forces farmer to shoot all his own pigs

* Disclosure: I do not support the call to arms promoted by the aboved linked publication. However, the Governor of Michigan should be intervening at this point, IMO.

I agree w/ the governor intervening. This is an emergency. Sounds like this should be a legal issue at this point.
Sadly, he said about 70 farmers have killed their pigs for fear of fines, charges and jail. He said some Michiganers seem really afraid of their govt. He also said they are getting huge national support against the DNR's actions.

Wow, this is out of control.

This is this man's livelihood.

You can see from the videos he really cares about what he is doing.

This is not just about one man. It is about every farmer in every state and the potential for state and federal bureaucratic agents (sans legislation) to dictate what suddenly becomes a felony to raise/possess.

Think about the power of Big AG and their ability to drive every non-corporate farmer out of farming with declarations such as this. How long before non-GMO seeds for vegetables, fruits, and grains can be declared "invasive species" based on their ability to reproduce (unlike Monsanto et al GMOs)?
