People are discovering that fabric softeners are some of the most toxic products made for daily household use. They contain chemicals (like chloroform, benzyl acetate and pentane) that are known to cause cancer and/or damage to lungs, brain, and nerves. These chemicals are even more dangerous when heated in clothes dryers. The toxic fumes then go into neighborhood air and everyone for blocks around is forced to breathe them in.

Fabric softener chemicals are made to stay in clothes fibers and slowly release for a very long time. That slow release of chemicals into the air affects the health of those wearing the clothes and of people around them.

Some symptoms caused by fabric softener fumes are: tiredness that is not cured by resting, difficulty breathing, nervousness for no known reason, difficulty concentrating and remembering, dizziness, headaches, sick stomach, feeling faint, rashes and/or difficulty controlling body movements.

Babies, children, older people, and people who are already sick are especially hurt by these chemicals. Damage can be permanent, causing lifelong illness. Babies often react with rashes, frequent crying and/or diarrhea. Disinfectants can have the same effects. Experts suggest a possible connection between Sudden Infant Death ("crib death") and the use of these products for washing baby clothes and crib sheets and blankets.

Most fabric softeners have fragrance added to them, which makes them even more toxic.
I appreciate your concern and your warning.

This may be a personal situation for you and not something affecting the general public.

I would like a reputable scientific study before taking this as mertorious for me.

If you search the web there are numerous reports on the subject. Perhaps you will even find one that will meet your standards. I find that where there's smoke there's fire.

Allergy and Environmental Health Association.

If you followed this thread you would see I did make comments on searching the web in post #19...

This is another website that has nothing concerning any scientific studies done on the subject, thanks....

As soon as I saw this statement on fabric softeners
Quote:
It is the most toxic product produced for daily household use.
I stopped reading.....

I wonder why after looking at boxes of fabric softener sold in Canada if it's the most toxic household product it doesn't have one single warning anywhere on the box about being a toxic health hazard.....

I mean ammonia does, bleach does, Lime Away does, why not fabric softeners? After all, they have been on the market well over 30 years now....

Some people such as the OP have an adverse reaction to fabric softener, others have violent reactions to peanuts, women's perfume, the odor of cedar, does that mean they are a danger to everyone and to stop eating, using or smelling them?

Wikipedia:

Fabric Softeners contain chemicals that impregnate fabric and are released over time. These chemicals may come in direct contact with the skin and may absorbed or inhaled. Certain ingredients release formaldehyde, which has been linked to cancer in lab tests.[6] Among other softener components are benzyl acetate (linked to pancreatic cancer), benzyl alcohol (an upper respiratory tract irritant), ethanol (linked to central nervous system disorders), limonene, and chloroform (a neurotoxin and carcinogen).[7] Some chemicals are neurostimulants or irritators and may be linked to Central Nervous System oxin exposure symptoms like headaches, disorientation, mood swings, numbness in face or extremities, memory loss, or irritability.[8]

You actually think they might tell you how dangerous it can be to your health... are you joking.. how long did it tell us about DDT Thalidomide, and cigarettes.. before the harm was done... and the governent were forced to put warning on ciggies...cant you see all Ive been doing is trying to help others.. its not just the fabric conditioner, I used that as a strong example of how it causes symptoms... I have lots of blood tests done 20 years ago by Dr Thomson head of skn disorders and allergy at the Royal Infirmary, who said there was nothing in my blood, but sent me along for patch testing at another hospital.. they put about forty substances on your back. and you keep them on for I think it was 24 hours.. when the nurse put them on she was taken aback as two turned deep blue right away... she said that was a bit unusual as it takes a few hours normally to show up....Having the patches on cause the symptoms so I was quite unwell. When I went to get them off , I was told that three things has now shown up.... Chemicals in cleaners, and all perfumed products....she murmured something about a food but that it wasnt showing up as strong, as if that was nothing... I thought there would be follow up to this... but no help was given , just given a sheet with avoidance triggers.. which of course anyone with this knows when and what to try to avoid... not a simple task...it seems nowadays even cars need to smell like a bordello, with vanilla or pine wafting out windows.. My own house is my only safe haven, chemcial free as much as I can possibly do... IM not mad.. a hypochondriac,or an attention seeker , Im the total opposite in fact... the blinkered sad people who think this about MCS or any autoimmune illness, most like mne dont show up in normal blood tests either... I think you might also find that a hell of a lot more people have a form of this than what you might think.. I often wonder how many critics of this on forums actually work for chemical companies..

Nothing but people's blogs, in fact basically the same websites you posted in post in #18.

kidsfeed.blogspot, naturalnews, shopsixwise, holastichealthsecrets, ourlittleplace, greentobe.blogspot etc. etc.

When you come across reputable accredited scientific research websites or whitepapers please post them, otherwise this phenomenon is just an individuals reaction to something, quite normal in human beings.

But thanks for regurgitating what had been posted earlier.

So you have a low tolerance to many chemicals, some people unfortunately have this and you are one of them. I feel sorry for people like you who are afflicted with this but it hardly means that everyone else on the planet has the same reactions.

Your condition could be worse, think of the people that have to live inside plastic bubbles with filtered air because they have a reaction to everything in society and everything in nature. Maybe you might just have to start looking at going to specialists in other countries, sounds like Scotland is sparse in the specialists you require, good luck
