It has been being sucked dry since the entire state of Kansas was a lake.

A very important topic.. but I hope this is just a reminder, not something you think is breaking news (its been an issue for decades). Wells are being shut down, more dryland crops planted (lets not devolve to an anti-GMO thread), and irrigation methods are improving. Alot of work is left to be done. I saw just the other day on the news that farmers were being forced to irrigate dead corn by their insurance companies despite their pleas not to waste the water (and fuel) .
