I don't worship any companies either but I do give some respect to a company that invests it's own money in alternative energies...
So where's that URL concerning the HUGE government subsidies Google receives that I asked you for earlier?
Or was your post just another flippant off the wall BS statement that this forum is famous for?
If Google invested in a wind farm, they got federal subsidies for it. Review & Outlook: The Energy Subsidy Tally - WSJ.com
Now I know you're going to come back with this silly little retort of, "It doesn't say SPECIFICALLY that Google got any of those subsidies." But let's use a little common sense here, shall we? Google would have to REFUSE the subsidy payments, rather than go after them.
So Google has invested close to $1 billion in green energy. That's good! But it'd be interesting to see what their NET investment is. I'd bet that it's about 1/4th that.

So the numbers sprouted off were pure speculation on your part, you are clueless as to an actual amount...
You're excused, just please next time make sure what you post is based on facts, not fantasy....
If they invest millions of their own money in alternative energies and don't increase the load on the power grid I see no problem with them getting tax breaks....

So far, smart axe, you have provided absolutely NOTHING to back up your worship of Google. What you did in this quoted post is EXACTLY what I knew you'd do. More smart-mouthing, without one iota of evidence.
Also, the ARRA provides a 30% tax credit. Even you can probably do the math on 30% of $1 billion.
Google bought a wind farm. Goody for them. All wind energy construction is subsidized with federal tax dollars. FACT. They also would have received tax breaks for "going green." FACT. The onus is on YOU to be more than just a smart axe.

Sonny, pay attention, this is all I said:
Quote:
Now this is putting your money where your mouth is...
Google puts $75 million into an Iowa wind farm, bringing its total green power investment to nearly $1 billion.
Google Nears $1 Billion Investment in Green Power
You want to argue about anything else take it to the P&OC forum where they like to argue over stupid things....

Sonny? You must be in your 80s.
That's all you said in ONE POST. The rest of what you've said is your typical BS, name calling, and obfuscation.
Google has made out like a bandit on this green energy investment. Best of all, they've got people like you worshiping them, wrongly thinking they're all about being eco-friendly.
My point is that Google investing in green energy is not everything it's made out to be. Google gets to brag to its "eco nerd" fan-base, saying "Look how much we're investing in green energy!!!"
Exactly and that is how it's being reported, if this was Exxon doing this you can bet the media coverage would highlight the subsidies.
So the numbers sprouted off were pure speculation on your part, you are clueless as to an actual amount...
The subsidies are pervasive and knowing exactly what Google is getting out of it would require some research into the Federal, State and local level because all three could be involved and certain the Feds and the State will be. You would also have t know what they are doing with the power.
Having said that the subsidies are only the tip of the iceberg because there is mandates this energy be used. Power distributors are required by most states to provide X amount of power through renewable resources. This allows these companies to charge more for it. For example the wind farm in Massachusetts that made headlines a few years ago has a contract for 15 years. The starting rate is 22 cents/kWh and that will increase 2.5% each year for the life on the contract. The cost to the distributor will be more than 30 cents per kWh at the end of the contract. These costs are passed onto the consumer in their power bill. If you want a comparison electric from coal or natural gas is sold for about 4 cents.
If Google is using the power for themselves they are generating "green credits" which is a piece of paper that can be sold to the power distributor so they can meet the mandate. These costs of course would also be passed onto the consumer in their power bill. So many people focus on the subsidies they lose sight of where the real money is being generated.
Subsidies or not, I doubt anyone else is putting that much money into green energy.
We'll all be gone, but I wish I could see coal and oil lovers explanation when everything is ran by green energy in 100 years.
