This pesticide, known to be killing off many bees worldwide may be banned in the UK from today.... On the news there is no mention of harm to humans.....now I wonder why that is... is the reason not to cause panic, or do these scientists and the government just not care , Im all for the ban, and hope to have many more of these toxic sprays . if we lose the bees we lose the trees and the fruit.

I was so happy to read about this today! Want to bet it won't happen in the US? Greed in this country is way more powerful than the bees. Until they are GONE... but then it will be too late.

Government refuses to support ban on neonicotinoids despite protests

Another OP based on the infamous anti-GMO phrase "may be" with no supporting URL's to support it...

Quick research on the topic proves another propaganda ploy by the anti-GM anti-technology crowd....

Quote:
But despite the public outcry Sir Mark Walport, the Government’s new chief scientific adviser insisted that a ban is not the best way forward for Britain.

In one of his first statements in post, Sir Mark explained that a ban would mean using more old fashioned pesticides that are not only more expensive but could be more damaging to wildlife.
Government refuses to support ban on neonicotinoids despite protests - Telegraph

Note in the article another infamous anti-GMO phrase (bolded in green)

Quote:
Tim Lovett, director of public affairs at the British Beekeepers Association, agreed that a ban could make the situation worse for bees.
He said old fashioned pesticides can kill bees and called for more research into alternatives.
No facts, just more supposition. I guess we need "more studies", "more research"

BBC News - Bee deaths: EU to ban neonicotinoid pesticides

Quote:
The European Commission will restrict the use of pesticides linked to bee deaths by researchers, despite a split among EU states on the issue.

There is great concern across Europe about the collapse of bee populations.

Neonicotinoid chemicals in pesticides are believed to harm bees and the European Commission says they should be restricted to crops not attractive to bees and other pollinators.
Maybe oce all the bees are dead in the US, Europe will loan us theirs?

From the quickness of your reply it's obvious you didn't bother to read the article, typical for this forum...

But many farmers and crop experts argue that there is insufficient data.

Fifteen countries voted in favour of a ban - not enough to form a qualified majority. According to EU rules the Commission will now have the option to impose a two-year restriction on neonicotinoids - and the UK cannot opt out.

The UK did not support a ban - it argues that the science behind the proposal is inconclusive. It was among eight countries that voted against, while four abstained.

There is heated debate about what has triggered the widespread decline in bee populations. Besides chemicals, many experts point to the parasitic varroa mite, viruses that attack bees and neglect of hives.
Did you bother to read the article? The first paragraph:

Quote:
The European Commission will restrict the use of pesticides linked to bee deaths by researchers, despite a split among EU states on the issue.
Did you read the last paragraph?

But the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) argues that these studies were mainly conducted in the laboratory and do not accurately reflect field conditions.

Permaculture is the way to go! No need for dangerous chemicals that are needed with monoculture farming. Humans need to learn how to work WITH Nature, instead of trying to control, patent & profit from it.

Still waiting for someone, anyone in this thread or the other GMO thread to post accredited scientific beyond-a-shadow-of-a-doubt facts that PROVE GMO's are dangerous chemicals...
