84MPG is possible in plenty regular cars already on the road.

I think there are conversions available to tune up cars to that level.

Its an interesting concept. I bet the guy will sell a bunch. I'd like to know more about performance, top speed, breaks and handling. My guess he will run into a bunch of government red tape that will jack up the price and bring down the mileage.

Right before Toyota started selling the Yaris in America, it was stated that the diesel version got 75 mpg in Europe. Sadly, I don't think US Toyota dealers ever got that car.

The U.S. is behind basically everyone on MPG.

The USA car makers seem more interested in horsepower than MPG. I really don't get that at all. And just look at the difference between the US Smart car and the European version. A different gasoline engine and maker, and of course no diesel version.

84 MPG on the highway, 49 in the city. I'd think that city mileage could be a bit better. The price is very good though, be an excellent 2nd car for some people. I'd rather have an original diesel Smart car though.
