I grew up in an area with natural fluoride in the water and in my lifetime have had 3 cavities. Dental care just fills those cavities, fluoride prevents them.

suzy,

ROS does not remove all the fluoride. RO systems are very expensive.

Regardless, why should citizens who do not want fluoridation be force to spend any money trying to get the fluorides out of their drinking water. Most Americans are opposes to communism and socialism and yet in the case of fluorides the people are forced to accept fluoridation medication without their consent or knowledge. Are you capable of making your own decisions about your health or do you need someone else to do it for you? If a municipality announced that because of the success with heart protection afforded by aspirin they were going to put aspirin in the water there would be a mass protest.

More importantly, why is the forced medication of fluoride allowed to go on? In America we are supposed to be free but Big Brother has prescribed fluorides for everyone regardless of dosage. This is nothing more than communism/socialism at work.

Let's try to keep American free.

Because since the 50s, the first time this stuff came up, the people arguing against it seemed so absurdly strident and willing to call everybody opposed to them a "communist" that everybody assumes nobody sane is a opposed.

Let's try to keep American free.

1. Fluoridation has nothing to to do with socialism and communism. Anyway, claiming that it does is not an argument. Its simply name-calling that has no place in a rational discussion of any issue. The same is true of your references to "Big Brother".

2. People in cities like Colorado Springs have had naturally fluoridated water for years and you couldn't name anyone who has been harmed by it. On the contrary, the incidence of decay and other dental problems is much less than in other places without naturally fluoridated water.

3. The decision to fluoridate water was made either by initiative on the ballot or by your elected representatives. It is an example of "keeping America free". On the contrary, allowing a minority that does not want a community's water supply fluoridated to have their way would be an example of "not keeping America free" and allowing rule by a small, ignorant section of the community.

4. By electing representatives who support fluoridation, the majority of people did make a decision about their health. They showed that the health of the community was worth spending a few million dollars a year to fluoridate the water supply. This cost is easily recouped by much lower dental bills in a community.

5. Some people irrationally oppose any public health measures at all. They oppose immunization even though it has been shown to decrease mortality and morbidity rates from a dozen or so diseases. Do you know that some people originally opposed chlorination of the water supply? Do you see how ridiculous such opposition is? A contaminated water supply can cause hundreds of deaths and illnesses.

6. Your argument about aspirin is silly because aspirin has side effects that would keep authorities from ever proposing such a thing.

7. All you need to do if you don't like fluoridated water is persuade your elected representatives to repeal the law. Go knock on doors and hand out literature in your town. Its more effective than complaining on CDF.

You can get one that filters just the kitchen sink or one for the whole house. It will remove the chlorine, too.

However, what you read on the internet about the dangers of fluoride is over-hyped nonsense.

What it boils down to is too little fluoride in the water promotes tooth decay. Too much fluoride in the water can stain permanent teeth in children. The stains cannot be removed. Too much can also cause bone problems. The right amount (monitored by your water purification system) prevents tooth decay and does not harm teeth or bones or do the other scary things that anti-fluoride propaganda says it does.

markg91359 has already responded to your post. I totally agree with what he said.

Another alternative is to buy distilled water for drinking. That way you remove virtually all of the minerals. Don't use spring water, because it may have naturally occurring fluoride in it.

If fluoride did all the things those opposed to it insist it does, whole communities with naturally fluoridated water would be sick. They are not. So why is naturally fluoridated water OK but to add fluoride to a level that is comparable to what is found naturally in some areas not OK? We know what a safe level to use is.

You aren't letting in any of the information being presented here. That's the sign of a closed mind. And the fact that you keep beating the drum with the same misinformation and wild charges, even after they are debunked, really costs you credibility, and works against you. As a matter of fact, since this issue was pushed hard by the fringe group John Birch Society years ago, and finally laid to rest by the American public at large, people who push it today are largely seen as unreasonable outliers. That's the polite term for it.

There's no forced medication going on, because there's no medication going on. And there is no Big Brother, just the American system of representative democracy at work. Communities that have voted against fluoridation don't have it, while other communities have chosen to do it. THAT's real choice at work. And just like every other decision that gets made in a democratic society, not everyone agrees with every decision.

Currently 42 of the 50 largest cities in the US fluoridate their municipal water supplies, and 72% of the population who are on municipal systems receive fluoridated water. It's no secret, and the benefits to public health are well documented. If you don't like it, this is a democracy and you can work to change it, or you can move to a community that does not fluridate, but please, stop spreading misinformation.
