Seems like it defeats the purpose.
You pedal an electric bike, just like a regular bike. The higher end electric bikes are required to be pedaled for the electric boost to kick in.

An electric bike takes away most hills. I did bog down on a 30 degree hill. So basically you are pedaling on "flat" ground no matter the terrain.

Your still pedaling on an electric bike so the exercise is still a factor, it just means no matter how hilly the country in your neck of the woods........your pedaling in Kansas. Your range is much extended. For example, a 20 mile commute to work on a regular bike might be difficult to complete in a timely manner, but with a electric bike you can do it everyday, day after day.

I did a 2000 mile bike tour of Europe in my 20's. Now in my 60's I would do it again. However, it would be a lot more fun on an electric bike!!

Here is an explanation of the advantages of the electric bikes: usbackroads™: Silver Wings.....glistening in the sunshine. Trek Electric Bicycles

Unfortunately, we have had issues with the Trek bikes and Trek has left the market. More details inside the blog. However, one of these days somebody will get electric bikes right....Trek came close.
