If that is the argument you're only giving me more ammunition. At about an equivalency of $50 or $60 a barrel, coal to liquid fuel tech is easily the winner for variety of reasons including cost and compatibility. What the hell runs on ethanol in the military? You can make both diesel and jet fuel from coal and if the purpose is to secure a supply for defense why would you not to turn the most abundant supply of fuel you have?

I didn't make that decision.... Fuel is fungible. The idea was to divert oil from commuter gas buggies to defense needs, with a secondary benefit that ethanol is a cleaner burning fuel.

Whether it was a smart move or not is debatable, but in any case, it's time to pull the plug on that program, because technology has moved on.

And I know it's hard for you to accept, but unless workable technology is developed for coal generating plants to sequester their own carbon pollution as they go.. we'll all be watching to see if the new Canadian plant actually works... I think coal has a short timeline ahead.
