Even in Vermont there are towns with no zoning or codes.

In Lamar's words, he built the cabin under a certain size and "skirted" the building permits.

Which I guess means he made dresses for them. I'm not sure what pattern he used.

I like the idea, but the title is pretty missleading...
for $2000 you get a fancy shed....
Home - Simple Solar Homesteading

The 2k does not account for, electrical box, wiring, energy storage, solar panels, bathroom, well or any water harvesting, wind turbine, septic tank or cess pool or the plumbing to make a mulch system.

Heck by the time your done getting the rest of this, you could probably find a cheap rural property out in the sticks somewhere for less with a real foundation and water.

Still, a Cool idea IF your allowed to build that size without a permit. I know you cannot in the SF bay area.

Also, like the ARMY post. BUT IMO going blue (navy) beats going green any day. :P

Good luck with that.

It is ironic that the greenies have screwed themselves. The same people who want to save the environment are now going to be forced to deal with sewage regulations and such that were put in place from their campaigning.

There are hundreds of thousands of acres all around me like that. Don't need luck, but thanks...

There is a couple who built a completely off the grid home in eastern Tennessee and she blogged the entire thing, including pictures. It was interesting reading along in the weekly posts about what they had done and what they were doing.

That's a great story and I had read about them before. I a happy for them and that they were able to do what they did. The below is NOT meant to detract from that.

The thing is - obviously they have a bunch of money to do things. A lot of people looking to build a dry, remote, cabin don't have those type of funds. Look a the motorhome they first lived in and brought over to the property.

In San Diego, the cut off is 120 SQ FT, and the sides cannot touch the ground.
